Barrel-aged in Woodford Reserve barrels. Brooklyn Black Ops does not exist. However, if it did exist, it would be a robust stout concocted by the Brooklyn brewing team under cover of secrecy and hidden from everyone else at the brewery. Supposedly, "Black Ops" was aged for four months in bourbon barrels, bottled flat, and re-fermented with Champagne yeast, creating big chocolate and coffee flavors with a rich underpinning of vanilla-like oak notes. They say it’s vanishingly rare. We have no idea what they’re talking about.

My can says this was aged in Four Roses Single batch barrels and is 12.4% abv. Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is a huge vanilla and wood. Flavor is a thick. heavy syrupy malt with maple syrup and some bourbon notes. This was super thick and heavy with a lot of bourbon. Flavorful with almost all bourbon and very warming.

2016 bottle drunk 2020. Foamy light brown head left a good cover on a near black still body. Huge aroma of malt, liquorice & bourbon. Medium bodied, smooth & creamy over the tongue with a lighter clean back. Liquorice, malt, bourbon, raisin, vanilla & Christmas cake tastes with a hint of grape on the back followed by a long boozy finish. Banging

Draft at 8 Degrees Plato. Pours a pitch black with a small brown head that dissipates. Dark malt, cacao nib, roasted malt, umami and faint smoked aromas on the nose. More of the same on the palate with a savory, salty note underneath the dark chocolate and soy sauce notes. ABV hidden well. The herbal / salt note is a bit distracting but still a well-made beer.

Bottle Pour at the source: pours black with small head. Aroma is chocolate, light vanilla, hints of bourbon. Bourbon is subdued, slightly sweet, mellow roast, nice woody notes. More mellow than expected.
