473 ml can. Pours a dark brown with moderate off-tan head. Aromas of lemon peel, earth ground coffee and dusty roasted malts. Lemon predominates - almost like a cleaning fluid. Flavors of chocolate and lemon hiding coffe and roasted malts. Odd mix. The lemon is definitely not harmonious. Though not really offensive...

Draft - Roasty dark notes. Jet black brown with a decent beige head. Dark roast, lemon and some espresso. Interesting.

Taster at Darby's Gastown. Pours an almost black with a beige head. Aroma is dark malts, lacto, chocolate butter, some lemon. Similar taste. It is a bit weird, but quite pleasant and interesting.

On tap at Darby's Gastown, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lactose upfront, with a bit of cinnamon and modest roast. Flavour is strange, with a weird balance of espresso and lemon, bitter roast, and barely detectable lactose. There's some harshness in the interplay between the coffee and lemon - I don't think this works too well.

Dark brown, thin head. Lots of coffee and dark chocolate on the nose. Bitter black coffee up front, the zest making a subtle acidic impression that provides some balance, malt and lactose sweetness the rest. Really good...full body and complex flavours at regular stout size. Quality.

Draught at the brewery
Black colour with tan compact head. The aroma is roasty, some burnt bread. The mouthfeel is very dry, light minty feeling, almost toothpaste, it just got the bitter character from the zest, and the lactose, that could have saved the day here, is unfortunately not noticeable. Aggressive.
Not great.
