Bottle - Dark chocolate and potent rum barrel notes. Jet brown with a decent beige head. Dark chocolate and nice sweet toffee notes. Rum and booze follows in the finish. Bold but nice. IPA notes are gone, but that is OK.

Medium brown. Head fizzes up then falls flat...ok shouldn't do that. The aroma is a bit of a mess, definitely some rum and a little bit of chocolate. Nice rummy taste, light chocolate, has an interesting bitterness that probably clashes with the rum. I like the rum character, but the bitterness is quite clashy.

Nothing complex, and no barrel evidnece, but it's a solid and reasonable beer.

2017-12-09, bottle at Black Christmas 2017; 11.5% ABV, 6-4-6-3-12=31
Dark color, almost black. Dark malts, molasses, some butter, booze; also, pecans.
Good beer, but chaotic, not fully convincing.

650 mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma has butter, rum, and light toasted malt. Flavour is a trainwreck, with butter, rum, and light toasted malt. Subdued hops, with a buttery rummy finish. Poor.

A pour from the bottle on Black Christmas V. Dark fruits, barrel, sweet. Not bad.

Bottle: Poured a dark dirty amber color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and some minor lacing notes. Aroma of light rum notes with some caramelized malt notes is not bad. Taste is a mix of caramelized malt notes with some light residual sugar notes and some rum barrel notes. Body is thin with OK carbonation and light warming alcohol. I could have swear this was a BA scotch ale since I could barely find any hops or roasted malt notes. Boyd was too thin for such a big beer.
