Now THIS is a barrel-aged beer. Forget all of the quirky, experimental, and oddball types of wood-aged beers you may have had. One sip of Cultivating Mass and you’ll remember why brewers started putting porters and stouts in barrels in the first place. We are excited to re-release our award-winning Bourbon barrel-aged porter for the first time since 2017.

Sample at the 6th Annual Craft Beer Festival by The Community Tap on 04/21/2018. Dark brown color with some mahogany around the edges, and a medium beige head that diminishes gradually to a film. Small patches of lace. Bourbon, malt, vanilla and chocolate in the nose. Medium to full body with flavors of oaky bourbon, chocolate malt and vanilla. The finish is oaky with a fudge and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Poured from the tap. Dark brown with beige head. Lots of bourbon and vanilla, not much else shows through. Bourbon is a bit too overpowering of the other flavours. Lighter body. Long, sweet, slightly cloying finish.

12 oz bottle. Pours a deep reddish brown with almost no head. Aromas of sweet bourbon, candi sugar, toasted malts and oak. Flavors of follow same though mostly bourbon with light vegetal notes. Interesting, but other than barrel influences can’t really say what the base beer is. Would not guess a porter.

Dark brown. Oily, inky appearance. Boozy, nice sweet malt aroma. Big...flat...has a lot of barrel. Some darker sugars and understated bitterness in the base beer. Nice big beer.

On tap at John B Pub, pours black with a tiny head. Aroma is loaded with bourbon character, with lots of vanilla and caramel. Flavour is very sweet, with lots of bourbon character upfront, followed by vanilla, caramel and treacle. Quite sweet, but not cloying. Nicely put together.

Draught at John B Pub, Coquitlam
Black color. Mild aroma of bourbon. Good body strength, but also quite strong alcohol; not much malt depth, sweet liquorice, mild bourbon.
Quite cloying actually.
