Kriek de Ranke is an unsweetened cherry beer of mixed fermentation. It arises from a blend of old Flemish ale, lambic and 25 kilos of sour cherries/Hl.

Taste: Full cherry flavour, sour and thirst-quenching. Gentle oaky notes from oak-aging.

Bottle. Pours dark red. No head. Simple sour cherry aroma with no real character. I could drink this all night, I love the acidity of it, but this is not the most complex kriek I’ve had. A little too one dimensional... but I like it.

First rating75 cl bottle from temporary selection at Systembolaget, thanks to deft! Sampled on March 9, 2010.Didn’t have a pad in front of me, so mainly from memory this one.The first pours are clear dark ruby red with a pinkish small head. Last pours with sediment are murky reddish brown. Scent is sour, acidic, sweaty, fruity, makes the "sour glands" in your throat pull together. Taste is citric, lactic, sour, fruity, horsey, still in some way balanced, for this sort of beer. Some sweetness even around there. Mouthpuckering, sourish mouthfeel. Very low bitterness, though some possibly from cherry skin and pips. Scent and taste from fruit (cherry) pips in there on and off, from subtle to evident, but to varying degrees. I rather enjoyed this one, not too sweet, glad they seem to be making it the old ways. I’ll buy some more for sure.8/5/8/4/17=4.2Rerate750 ml bottle on January 8, 2011. 750 bottle purchased at Lukas in Kansas City, Missouri. Pour is reddish pink with a one inch white pink head that falls noisily with no lace. Aroma of mild skunk, earthy tart cherry, and barnyard Brett funk. Behind that is some vinegar sour that rounds out the nose. Taste is acetic lemon, sour cherry, vinegar, farmyard Brett dry funkiness and some wood resin nature that picks up in the finish. Taste is much more cherry and expressive versus the nose - really complex with a nice "pop" of bright flavor. Palate is brightly acidic, medium to light bodied with a fine active carbonation. The cherry sour lingers beautifully. Really nicely constructed beer.

Bottle with best by date of 09 2012, bottled in September 2007. Murky purple color with a thin white head that rapidly disappears to leave scant lacing. Aroma of sour citrus and cherries. Taste begins with fruit and grows progressively more sour, with notes of grapefruit toward the finish. Great body. Very dry. Brett character is apparent, and complexity is decent. Nice one.

cloudy red, white head. sour aroma, bretty, fruits, stingy sour but nice. flavor is fruity, sour, faint vineagra, nice but a bit simple (7,2,7,3,16) . 75 cl wrapped bottle with an exlusively looking label layout on the bottle. Nice one. Cloudy to clear light red, white to light pink head. almost white. Deep sweet cherry aroma and a good dry leatherly lambic below that. somewhat less intense than cantillon lou pepe kriek which i enjoyed lately, but still pretty damn solid aroma. Flavor is *Really* good, just as good as i remember the lou pepe. a little bit sweeter than the cant. but there is lots of sourness under the sweet cherries, and things blend well. tart and sour.. dry.. but not acidic.. easy drinking. really really good.

750 shared at Cambrinus in Brugge with Marcus. BB 09 2012 / bottled 09 2007. Pours hazy ruby with a large pink head. Sharpish sour cherry aroma. Less than medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is sour, but not so very, cooking cherry. A smooth and moderate kriek. Cherry skin aspects coat the mouth. Finishes cherry and pleasantly sour.
