5 Golden Rings is the only golden ale in our 12 Days of Christmas Series. We spiced up the natural pause in the classic song with cinnamon, allspice and ginger along with the delicious sweet and tangy flavor of golden pineapple.

Bottle at ChrisO tasting, thanks to Peter but ultimately Myrna, 30/12/12. Hazed light to mid golden with a thin off white head that escapes to edgeville. Nose carries sweet candied sugars, malt, spice, caramel, dark ripe fruits, touch of booze. Taste comprises pineapple, sweet sugars, caramel, dark fruits, a little spice. Full bodied, soft carbonation, boozey finish. Decent!

Bottle. Pineapple, light spice, and caramel malt aroma. Cloudy brown-yellow with moderate head. Sweet pineapple, caramel malt and ginger flavor. Alcohol finish. Pretty good but not one I would want very often.

Bottle. Pineapple, light spice, musty yeast, and alcohol aroma. Cloudy honey gold with a moderate white head. Sweet tart pineapple, Belgian yeast, cinnamon, ginger, and light alcohol finish, Light body, moderately dry finish.

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet, Belgian yeast, pineapple, some ginger, and other fruity notes
Appearance: It pours a hazy orange color with a small white head that leaves drippy, foamy lace
Flavor: The flavor is sweet too, it has lots of fruit, with some alcohol and spice on the finish
Palate: The body is medium, it has a creamy'clean, and tingly feel, and some light heat on the finish
Overall Impression: I enjoyed what they did here, and I thought that using the pineapple as the golden rings was a cleaver choice. I have not tried one these Christmas song beers since Two Turtle Doves, but I'm glad I stumbled across this one, as it was worth trying for sure. Also, based on the dominance of the sweetness and the high alcohol content, this one would probably improve over time.

Bottle in Vail, picked up at Wilburs Fort Collins. Pours a hazy orange appearance with a somewhat small, off white head. Big ginger, spicy allspice, tangerine, pineapple, tropical fruity, strong and a bit boozy aroma. Juicy, pineapple, fruit cocktail, chewy ginger, somewhat zesty yeasty/estery, banana flavor with a fair amount of booze. Seems pretty overdone.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy orange with a small white head. Aroma of candied sugar, Belgian yeast, and light fruity esters. Flavour is fairly boozy, with licorice fumes, Belgian candied sugar, yeast, pineapple juice and loads of booze. Not refined at all, with off-kilter notes that are not in balance at all. Not so palatable. I continue to be amazed at the overrating of this brewery.

Bottle. Pours hazy golden amber with a large off-white head that dissipates slowly with great lacing. Aroma is yeast, wheat, cinnamon, allspice, fruit. Flavor is about the same, strongly spiced, ginger and fruit dominating. Medium sweet, citric acid tart with a zesty finish. Interesting, but not great.
