Taster at the brewery. Pours an almost black with a brown head. Aroma is lovely with bourbon, chocolate, some fruity, and candy notes with a bit of burnt sugar on the back. Taste is similar with lots of bourbon, some fruity, chocolatey and leathery notes. Quite dry black chocolate aftertaste. This one is very nice and well done. It tastes full-bodied despite announced 8.5% ABV. One more good BBA beer from Steamworks.

On tap at the brewery. Pours an opaque dark chocolate color with a brown head. Aroma is bourbon, vanilla, toffee, some chocolate. Taste is pretty the same. Surprisingly quite dry, astringent aftertaste like after eating of black chocolate. Wow, very good work, Steamworks!

Bottle. Dark brown with a head that almost as dark. Aroma has a lot of vanilla, lots of milk chocolate, with barrel notes. A bit harsh on the palate...a lot of bitterness, with a touch of vanilla, more chocolate, roasted malts. The barrel is a bit harsh. For me, this is really not coming together; it’s more like a bunch of harsh elements that don’t happen. I mean, you can drink it, but that’s about it.

Original rating: 650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out cheap whiskey barrels, followed by some nice bourbon underneath, roasted malt, and dry cocoa. Flavour is fairly smoky, with woody barrels, light spiciness and dry earthiness. The JD don't do anything good, but the Woodford Reserve do impart some nice tones to this. Nothing overly deep, but it's good.
One-off keg after two years of aging: On tap at Steamworks, pours black with a small light brown head. Nose is full of wood, bourbon, deep roasted malt and light caramel. Flavour is intensely woody and roasted, with some JD barrel, regular bourbon, light smoke, roasted malt and bitterness. This has aged pretty well - it's still pretty harsh and boozy, but it works.

650 ml bottle. Pours Black with a moderate dark tan head. Aromas of black coffee, green oak, and whisky/alcohol. Flavors of dark chocolate, dry roasted malts, weak bourbon and a ton of alcohol. Harsh. Not subtle. Overpriced...

2017-01-03, bottle from the brewery, 7-4-7-3-14=35
Black color with generous compact head, that doesn’t have much retention. Aroma of roasted malt, quite harsh though, and whiskey. Highly carbonated, too much for an Imperial Stout; a lot of chocolate flavor, roasted malt, and buttery fudge, probably just the bourbon here.
Decent but pretentious.
Draught at the brewery taproom,7-4-7-3-14=35
Black oil color with thin brown collar. Aroma of roasted malt, roasted nuts, tar, some bourbon, too much phenol. Medium body strength, a bit oily, actually the alcohol is so strong from the beginning that cuts through the body; heavy flavor of roasted malts, some salty dark chocolate, hints of soy sauce, and overwhelming bourbon. Burning final, because of the alcohol, and ashy.
Boozy and very rough.
Decent first attempt, surely powerful, but 15-16$ for this beer is really too much, use your money elsewhere.
