(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 25 July 2013) Black colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of dark chocolate, coffee and liquorice. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread and a dry finish with a generous roasty bitterness. More than medium body, with velvety mouthfeel. Quite dry. Well made and balanced stout. Nice one.

Black colour. Decent lasting head. Aroma of burnt malts and coffee. Nice lasting bitter flavour although the it’s a bit on the thin side.

Bouteille @ 4de Gentse Bierfestival.

No head, black beer. Sweet-treacle like, bit of herbs like parsley. Sweet, bit fruity (indistinct). Finish has some roasted notes, but not bitter. Feels like rather watery, not-full bodied, certainly for a stout. Flat as a pancake. Bit watery, (too) sweet stout, yet not bad in the end.

Decent stout from the Eem brewery. It’s not extreme though, so I don’t understand where the name comes from.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of coffee and cream, liquorice. Flavour is medium-sweet, a bit sticky, coffee and cream, dry, liquorice, watery bitter finish. Lack a bit of body for a 7.5% stout. OK.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Opaque pitch black color, small beige to light brown head. Smell malts, lightly roasty, chocolate and nuts. Taste malts, lightly roasty, lightly chocolate, nuts, subtle bitter. Medium body, medium carbonation. Very nice.

Bottled. Dark color, short frothy brown head. Aroma is heavily roasted, licorice, wheat (you can smell the roasted wheat malt), hint of blackcurrant, coffee. Quite dry and bitter taste, bitterness mostly of the malts, soft caramelly notes as well. Slight high on carbonation. Quite tastefull, pretty good actually, although I prefer chocolat-forward stout and this is more licorice and roasted wheat.
