Black currant west coast sour
Made exclusively for members, our fellowship beers are almost entirely barrel-aged, sour, or unique cuvées & bottle runs are extremely limited. Since opening the brewery in 2014, we have been stockiling barrels of all sorts of strong, sour, & brett-fermented beers, which we draw upon to create these singular offerings.

Bottle: Poured a reddish color ale with a medium foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some nice blackberry with some nice oka notes that are easily noticeable. Taste is also a mix of tart notes with some fresh blackberry and oak notes with no discernible acidity. Body is pretty full with good carbonation. Enjoyable sour with a good level of complexity and good drinkability.

Poured from the tap. Brownish ruby red with minimal off white head. Quite tart, verging on acetic black currant with some mild jammy notes. Just okay.

Bottle at RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a clear ruby with small pinkish white head. The aroma is cherry skin, grape, currants. Medium body, sweet cherry, currants, lacto, light tartness, good.

Tasting at Matt’s
Bright red/ruby color, almost no head. Quite nice aroma of harsh and sour berries, evident currant. The mouthfeel is extrememly dry; the acidity is high, the fruity/currant flavor is there luckily, but otherwise the flavor is shallow; at least it’s not flawed; touch of vanilla; but from non experienced brewers like the Strange Fellows one this is as good as you can hope, just an aggressive sour beer with a good currant character, no complexity, a bit of nail polish.

Bottle - Cherry sour notes. Cloudy pinkish gold with a decent white head. Decent cheer swee sourness. A bit on the sweet side. OK, but not as good as it should be for the backers and the price.

Had a nice red colour. Cloudy. Has a fairly clean nose. Has a strong kettle sour note, with a light sugary character. So a bit candyish. But it’s not composed - some ok elements. Not all that compelling, though.

750mL bottle, pours an opaque bright ruby red with a small pinkish white head. Aroma is very pithy, with lots of black currant, moderate tartness and jamminess. Flavour is jammy, pithy and fruity, with black currants dominating. Quite earthy, with medium tartness. Jagged and lacking cohesion. These guys don't know what they're doing.
