Named after our Edmonton head brewer who created it, Gunthers’s Hefeweizen utilizes a German yeast strain that lends a unique banana-clove flavour. Pairing this with Hallertau hops, Gunther created a hazy hefeweizen that goes down smooth.

Hazy golden coloured body with a nice thin white head. Aroma of lemons, yeast, coriander seed and oranges. Medium-bodied; Great citrus taste with wheat and some sweetness coming out as well. Aftertaste clean and sweet with some citrus showing through. Overall, good for the style - a typical brewpub wheat. I sampled this beer served on draught at the Brewpub in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (Northwest City Centre location) on 28-December-2008.

Draught at the pub, Meadowlark location
Cloudy pale blond color. It has some aroma of spice, banana and very light cheesy mold (-1 point). Good body strength, light residual sweetness to support the light wheat character with a touch of banana flavor. Quite bitter. Simple but not bad.

Tap - Brewster’s Crowfoot. Very pale yellow. Opaque. Pristine white head. On the whole, good presentation. The aromatics are somewhat obscure, just some wheatiness and a bit of lemon (no lemon was used in the serving of this beer). Flavours are equally simple. Body is thinner and drier than many examples, which makes it more refreshing. Not very malty, spicy, or yeasty but refreshing has its time and place, too.
