Beautiful red-amber color with small head. Some aroma of caramel, malt, spirit. The body is mildly sweet, less than expected from a barley Wine, with more alcohol than one would desire; nice flavor, but not much malt depth, and indeed the final is quite weak; a bit nutty, some rum.
Nice beer, bellow expectations.

22 oz. bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma brings out notes of caramel malts, rum barrels, a little red wine and alcohol. Flavour is complex, with well-integrated rum barrels, followed by caramel and bready notes. Quite a soft palate, with no booziness. Surprisingly excellent.

Bottle - Sweet and Apple like notes, with some spicy notes and orange. Clearish copper with a small white head. Lots of interesting oaky, Apple and a nice sweet long finish. Nice, but a bit thinn.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of grainy malt with light rum notes and light dry notes. Taste is dryer then expected with some unrefined grainy malt, light caramel and some rum notes. Body is thinner then I was expecting with some good carbonation and no real alcohol was apparent. Not what I was expecting with malt body who could have been smoother and a little more sugar could have been apparent.

Au nez, les fruits confits se mèlent au caramel, aux notes de houblons résineux et à l’alcool au dosage modéré. La palette est très large. Les notes perçues sont de jujube, de réglisse rouge, de rhum et de toffee. De couleur ambré foncé aux tons cuivrés, le liquide développe une mousse de bonne épaisseur, à la densité et au maintient moyen. Le caramel s’impose même sur les lèvres dès l’entrée du liquide en bouche, accompagné d’un alcool aux tons de rhum juste assez puissant. Les sucres se déclinent en notes de jujube, de toffee et de réglisse, laissant quand même place aux tons de boisé ainsi qu’à une légère amertume résineuse en finale. Le corps est riche, la texture trapue et l’équilibre presqu’à point. J’aurais préféré un houblonnage légèrement plus intense; mais bon, c’est une question de goût. Ça reste un produit très supérieur à la moyenne. Une oeuvre d’art.
