Cask at the Euston Tap, London 01.12.10. Once I got over the initial shock of shelling out £4.50 for a half, I rather enjoyed this beer. I was talking to the barman about Thorbridge matters and mentioned the Coach & Horses, Dronfield only for one of the other four customers in the place to say ’bloody hell, I can’t get away from the place’ I spent 20 mins then chatting to James the new landlord of the pub and his two friends, who’d come down to London for the day and were meeting Kelly later on at the Euston Tap. Back to the beer, well for 3 years of age on it, it was holding up really well, sweet, warming quite heavy at times. There was fruity with orange showing, warmth flooding through from the alcohol was actually quite welcoming on such a cold day. My notes were rather sketchy as I spent too much time chatting to those nice folks from Yorkshire. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov15 3.8

Cask at The Euston Tap. Pours clear, dark amber with a creamy, off-white head. Super malty on the nose, with toffee and chestnuts, some light booze, and honey. Very sweet, with a strong honey and chestnut character. Sugars are highly attenuated and the mellowed effect is wonderful. The alcohol is present in body and mild warmth but not very much in the flavor. Full in body with fine carbonation and a smooth, lightly syrupy mouthfeel. Finishes sweet, very malty, with mild bread, heavy honey and toffee and more chestnuts. Just the faintest hint of earthy bitterness. Fantastic overall. Great beer.

Cask gravity at Nottingham BF 2007. Hazy amber/copper with no head. Last half out of the barrel. No off/bad flavours. Barley wine aroma, plus good lime. God that’s strong. Lime and grapefruit, syrupy malt, but the alcohol is very heavy. Tangerine jelly. Stronger version of the IIPA. Strong and fortifying.3.4/5.
