Bottle shared by my buddy Brian at a dark beer tasting, somewhat late in the game so am not sure how truly I could appreciate it. it is a dark brown pour the is not completely opaque & lets some light through. The aroma is boozy with a med-full body. The taste is bitter, fruity with a light smokey character.

BB 01.03.2015, 0,33L bottle. Pours very dark brown, almost black. It has tan head, the head stays. Aroma is very intense roasted malt, fruits, some dark chocolate, and herbs. Taste is burnt malt, caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, creamy, fruits, rather aggressive bitterness. Finish is nice long coffee and ash bitter. Alcohol is noticeable, but really pleasant for so high ABV beer. Overall: this is really great complex beer, there is a lot going on. The only reason why I don’t rate it even higher is some rather unpleasant vegetable taste in the background.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail
Pours pitch black with a small white head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice, dark ripe fruits, syrup, cocoa and hints of dark chocolate. Taste is sweetish, roasty, warming and sticky with hints of syrup, cocoa, dark chocolate and ash. Finish is strong, roasty and salty with hints of herbal notes, licorice, dark chocolate, sweet syrup and alcohol. A bit unbalanced imperial porter.

330ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Could have done without the spiritual/druidy bollocks on the label. Very dark brown pour, decent off-white head. Aromas are mostly sweet, dried fruit and chocolate, some vanilla, some liquorice, all quite subtle though. Taste is mostly sweet, with a booze burn, and it doesn’t quite hang together well enough for me.

33 cl bottle @ home
Aroma is sweetish with cocoa notes. Flavour has cocoa, salty licorice, some herbal tones and dark chocolate. Slightly too salty but good anyway!

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with huge, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Dark malty aroma, hints of dark chocolate, roast, floral hoppy overtones. Taste is moderately sweet, roasty dark malty, chocolately, dark fruity, hints of plum, raisin, a touch of rum, honey, floral and bitter hoppy overtones. Rich and complex, superbly balanced, very tasty.

Bottle at Dean’s Pale Lager tasting, Den Haag. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin tan head. The aroma is grassy hop. The flavour is strong bitter. Full bodied with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a boozy liqourice alcohol palate.
