Founders most complex, most innovative, most feared and yet most revered ale produced. Massive in complexity the huge malt character balances the insane amount of alpha's used to create this monster. More IBU's than any brewery has documented, more than you would believe and dry-hopped for twenty-six days straight with a combination of 10 hop varieties. Dangerously drinkable and deliciously evil. We dare you to dance with the Devil.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 17 Oct 2014) Reddish amber colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose with caramel, red fruit, black-currant and vinous hints of alcohol. Malty, fruity taste with notes of caramel, red fruit, black-currant, wine-gum and a generous resiny bitterness in a finish with a certain alcohol glow. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Very tasty and quite bitter, a bit boozy but with an impressive hop presence. Very nice. (7/4/8/5/15=3.9) Rerate: (Bottle, 18 Apr 2022) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, hoppy nose with notes of apricot marmalade, dried figs, caramel, pine needles, maple syrup and dried orange peel. Malty, hoppy, vinous taste with apricots, dried fruit, figs, caramel, pine needles, orange peel, maple syrup and a generous piney, resiny bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, quite sweet. Quite rich and powerful, really tast. Very nice.

Crisp, hazy copper and orange coloured body with a bronze glow and a thinnish, one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of alcohol, rich resinous hops, pine, pears and tons of pit fruit and caramel sugars. Full-bodied; Super rich hop flavours at first with a resinous and piney flavour make way to a large malt body and pungent sweet flavour that is very viscous. Aftertaste shows a lot of pineapple, raisins, toffee and caramel and somehow, even more alcohol and body. Overall, a very nice beer of course, but this is way closer to a Barley Wine than an Imperial IPA. Great to sample and definitely worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Tyson’s Corner (Falls Church) on 05-June-2014 for US$5,49 sampled at home in Washington on 21-November-2014.

Draught sample at SBWF. Heavy malty like a barley wine with hop oils. Extra of everything and over the top, good but too much.

Sample @ SBWF. Hard to rate and describe. Tastes a bot like a overhopped barley wine or a bock bier on steroids. Notes of pine needles, marzipan and grapefruit.

A really nice beer, but overall killed by the candy sweetness. This could have been great. Caramel and toffee sweetness in the aroma, sweet malts in the flavor, a sugary malt bomb. No sign of the ABV though, although I suspect it will sneak up on me later.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip. Clear dark amber with just over a finger of off-white head. Aromas of big malt right off the bat, citrus, toast. Tastes of citrus, malt, caramel, toast, some booze. Medium body with a dry and sticky finish. Medium carbonation. Semi-malty mouthfeel. Tastes more like a boozy amber ale.

Bottle courtesy of Secret Summer Santa 2014. Thank you! Bottled late may so reasonably fresh. Pours tiny hazy amber with a thin beige head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace on the glass. Smell is sweet, malty and earthy with biscuits, caramel, grapefruit rinds, moist grass, oily pine cones, papaya, alcohol, moist soil, orange peal and lemon peal. Taste is sweet, bitter and earthy with caramel, biscuits, toffee, grapefruit rinds, moist grass, pine needles, papaya, orange peal and lemon peal. Mouthfeel is round, oily bitter, slightly boozy and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with caramel, grapefruit rinds, moist soil, pine needles, moist grass, orange peal and lemon peal. Not sure I agree that it’s complex but it’s got a malt base that is quite intriguing, it’s well made, it hides the ABV fairly well and very much more bearable than most other Triple IPAs.
