Draft @ Sunset Grill & Tap. 4 oz. sample, I wanted a full pour but I had a Red Sox game to attend so I went with the sample. Copper with an orange hint in color, lasting head.
Flavor is real nice, great balance of malt and hops. Flavor starts with grapefruit, pine and some zesty hops. Complex maltiness, toasted grain, and a chewy caramel element. The alcohol makes itself know with a big warming sensation after the swallow. Texture is dry with some pine resin. Refreshing beer that packs a punch, glad I was careful with this beast! Another well above average brew from Founders.

(Thanks Chris "budznsudz") Bottle. A- Caramel, dough, sweet, biscuits. A- Brown orange color, completely cloudy liquid, minimal head. T- Caramel, bitter, bready, citrus. P- Full body, average texture, soft carbonation, astringent finish. O- Even with 2 years of age on this bottle, it kicks you in the face. I can’t imagine if it was fresh. The caramel has grown a lot but still is too bitter and funky for me. I wanted to like this a lot, but it just didn’t happen.

pours dark orange, almost no foam smells sweet, syrupy, some hops taste is sweet, very sweet ( barleywine ?) with a bit hops . in a blind tasting, i wouldnt even cdall this an IPA . this is a BW to me ..

Bottle sample at a tasting at Rotem’s place. Thanks zvikar. Hazy reddish amber with an off-white head. Aroma of piney and resinous hops, really stale, malt, caramel and alcohol. Alcoholic flavor with some sweet maltiness, caramel, stale hops, bitterness and more alcohol. Pretty heavy mouthfeel, very hot. Too much.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’13. Pours an amber orange color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity piney hoppy grapefruit aroma. Fruity malty piney hoppy bitter grapefruit flavor. Has a fruity malty piney hoppy bitter grapefruit finish.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013, 10/08/13. Golden amber with a thin off white head. Nose is boozey, bitter grapefruit, grass, orange. Taste comprises caramel malts, bitter grapefruit, orange pith, more malt presence. Medium bodied with bite, very drinkable for 12%, fine carbonation, dry finish. Decent DIPA.

Can at the 2013 ChrisO Pre-GBBF Shindig - London. Big thanks to whoever brought this one! Pours clear orange with a creamy, white head. Big sticky hops abound, lots of ripe citrus, pine, sugary malts. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Thick and resinous pine on the finish with more sugary malts and sweet, ripe citrus fruits. Decent.

New Beer Distributors, NY 12oz ($5.75): Pours amber with a light tan head that disappears into nothingness. Aroma is a lot of tropical fruit, with malt sugar and some sharp nasal hoppiness. Taste is simultaneously quite bitter and sweet as was to be expected. Body is really heavy. Bitterness plus heavy body make this a definitive sipper. Long and lingering aftertaste. I knew that this beer was going to be like this, but I got it anyway. Oh well. Good, but I couldn’t imagine drinking more than one; one is plenty enough to labour through.

12 ounce bottle. Hazy amber orange color topped by a small white head that quickly dissipates. Rich dark caramel malt nose with notes of candied orange peel. Intense bittersweet burnt caramel flavor has a huge bitter hop palate that dominates. Huge hoppy finish that has a big alcohol flavor that warms with each sip.
