India Pale Ale was first brewed when the British ships crossed the oceans en route to their faraway colonies. To better preserve their beloved beer during these long voyages, the English brewers added extra hops. British Brewer John Martin honoured this tradition when he landed in Antwerp by using the unique dry hopping technique. For this technique, extra hopflowers are added at the end of the fermentation process to give the beer a fruity aroma and a bitter yet balanced flavour. Martin's IPA, the perfect alliance between British character and Belgian brewing expertise.

Bottle. Golden color. Citric aroma with vinegar, hints of banana and floral notes. Malty sweet flavor with soft herbal notes, vennel and citrus. The hops are certainly not dominant. Not too bad.

On tap at Le Bistro, Brussels, right next to Horta's House-Museum. An amber to brown beer with a tan head. Aroma is far away from hoppy, despite its being an IPA: you get cookies, bread, brioche, caramel... In the mouth it's dry, yes, but not bone dry. Medium-bodied. Long-lasting, bitter finish. So-so.

hazy orange colour, huge, dense and stable, slightly beige-ish white head; aroma of orange and lemon peel, some honeycomb toffee, fruity and biscuity notes; taste is rather malty thank hoppy with some bitter orange, marmalade, honeycom toffee, burnt sugar and biscuits; not bad, but as an IPA it lacks the hops

Bottle from The Bottle Shop, Brugge. Dark amber with a small head. Has a mix of orange fruit and spices that hides its strength whilst maintaining a full body.
