Bottle, from Value On Liquor. Slightly hazy, amber, with a fairly thick head. The aroma has a fairly strong nelson sauvin character, with also some hints at chewy crystal malt. That crystal character pervades in the beer, lending it a heavier feel than might be ideal for sauvin hops, which are more suited to all pale malts, and lower alcohol. The 6.5% comes across almost as 7.5% in this one. The sauvin white grapey character is pleasant when it shows through, which is mostly in the finish. There’s also a fair bit of bitterness in this one, to play off of the chewiness. It’s a good IPA, but a showcase for any sort of NZ hop should be lighter, as they do down there.

Draught at 12 Kings, Vancouver; 420ml
Hazy amber color with compact head. This beer is an explosion of fruit, tropical and mango (not much passion fruit which is sometimes expected with Nelson Sauvin); its body is lean and on the dry side, there is just a tad more caramel than one would look for in the best IPA, but it’s not too much; a good amount of hop resins too. The freshest qualities of this beer seem to fade quickly though, like the aroma. The final is dominated by the hop resins.
Another excellent hoppy beer from Phillips.

On tap. Pours a clear copper color with full foamy retentive head. Aromas of tropical fruit and bready malts. Flavors pineapples, melons, candied oranges and toffee. Long strong bitter finish. Very nice.

On tap at 12 Kings, pours a clear copper with a small white head. Nose brings out tangy hops from the Nelson Sauvin, along with a herbal skunky quality. Flavour is very much along the same lines, with a mix of tangy citrus and skunky pot-like hops dominating. Pretty aggressive hopping but still quite clean and easy drinking. Not the best IPA out there, but it's well-made and satisfying. Good.
