Zwart bier met schuim. Smaak is zoet en licht bitter met iets van chocolade en karamel. Heeft iets te weinig "body" om echt een topper te zijn maar is zeker een goed bier.

At Café Galgenhuis, Ghent. Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, tan head that leaves lacing (served in a cute little dimpled mug). The aroma contains brown sugar, roasted malt, spices, nuts and hops. It tastes medium sweet and light spicy bitter. Medium body, slick texture, fizzy carbonation. This beer has few surprises, but carries an authentic feel and accompanies a dessert well. Surprised to see it was from Haacht.

Clear deep amber brown colour, good frothy beige head, diminishing slowly, good lacing. Aroma of caramel, candy sugar, dried dark fruit, nutty and earthy notes. Taste is light heavy sweet and slightly bitter, toffee, hazlenuts, sugary. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste sweetbitter, roasted malts, herbal notes. Though perhaps a tad too sweet very nice especially because of the nutty twist.

01/11/2015 25cl from tap @Koppenberg Cross, Melden. Dark red-brown, with nice white head. Nose is light roasted malts, dark fruits. Taste is light roasted malts, some fruits, some spices, yeast and a litlle sourness. Last time I had it, it was way sweeter, this one is much better

Haacht’s interpretation of a near-forgotten beer tradition referred to as ’Diesters bier’. Chestnut colour with ruby hue and off-white head, malty aroma of caramel candy and hazelnuts, spicy notes, dried fruits in the onset followed by a sweet maltiness, bit woody and nutty but primarily caramel-like, slick, herbal hoppy finish. Not all bad for a Haacht product.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Willems. BBF 20/08/2014. Dark brown, light read amber, small light beige head. Smell is pretty odd, thick used coffee grounds, plastic, thick plastic, candy sugar, plastic cherry. Tastes of metallic fizzy plastic cherry candy, very sugary, stale coffee and soda. Same for the body. There is definitely worse out there, there is something redeeming even here.

Simple example of the Belgian dubbel. Nothing adventureous here, just averageness.
