Black, lasting tan head. Nose of anise and vague roast. Intense anise palate, bitter dark roast, root beer notes. Poorly balanced

Kinda pink head and black body. Weird licorice aroma and nothing else. Weird licorice flavour, sharp, salt, not much else. This one’s gonna be hard to put down.

Bottle, Value On Liquor Store (Marpole). Dark brown. The aroma has a lot of dark chocolate, barklike woody notes, light vanilla and a mix of spices. On the palate, it has a touch of vanilla, but also a rich bitterness, austere woody character and spicy underpinning. Interesting beer.

Draft - Roasted malts, liquorice and light vanilla. Jet black witha decent light brown head. Lots of anise, mellow liquorice and a long finish. If you love anise, this is awesome, unfortunately I don’t.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Black color, compact head. Mild aroma, but with some interesting items: dark caramel, biscuits, molasses, bread. A light level of residual sweetness contributes to a full bodied experience; the caramel flavor blends to perfection with hints of chocolate cookies and dark bread, and gets slightly more roasty in the final.
Excellent and unexpected.

650mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Nose brings out lactose upfront, followed by vanilla beans, and light cocoa. Flavour brings out vanilla beans upfront, followed by light cocoa and a little lactose. Silky, creamy body, with medium sweetness. Good stuff, but I prefer the 52 Foot Stout.

Tap at drakes. Milk sugar roast and licorice nose. Black, brown lace. Cloying sweet vanilla and licocice flavor. Medium light body, low light metallic finish, sweet vanilla aftertastetaste. Way too sweet for my taste.
