The Boffo Brown ale is a beer that we brewed years ago and then put it in semi retirement for a couple years while we focused on other brands at the brewery. We have recently put it back onto active duty and are brewing it all year. The beer itself is delicious and is a favorite to many of us here at the brewery. Just as most of our beers it's on the "full body" scale pushing the envelope of what an American Brown Ale is to most people. The beer is a very deep/dark color of brown with a nice creamy tan head. The mouthfeel of the beer is very soft and is very drinkable. Flavors of malt, caramel, toffee, and a mild earthy nutty finish allow this beer to be paired with hearty food and sips of bourbon.

Reviewed from notes.
Can to nonic glass.
Appearance: dark brown close to black with a finger and a half's worth of khakia foamy head which slid off very nicely to leave some light lace.
Aroma: earthy to nutty scents, caramel/toffee malts, roasty semi-coffee whiffs, some chocolate then a light woodiness
Flavor: takes the prior noted aromas to blend to a mild sweetness with a sly roastiness underneath, finishes semi-dry with the roasty, toasty, nutty and earthy aspects
Texture: medium bodied, sessionable, fairly clean and mobile along the tongue and semi-dry
Overall: nicely done brown ale I believe leans closer to an English style. I would have again.

Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, dark bread, notes of chocolate, bit nutty, brown sugar, touch of raisins and some dark fruits. Flavour is above medium sweet and light to moderate bitter. Slightly sticky. Body is medium. An okay Brown Ale, pretty sweet with some sugary notes that I could have done without, good rich malts and cocoa notes though.

Bottle from the Great Beer Bar, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a slightly hazy medium brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy, light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, toffee, caramel, nutty, slightly fruiy, light floral dry hop. The flavour is moderate sweet, light bitter, with a smooth, rich, burnt treacle toffee, nutty, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

25.02.2015, tap @ UNA:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly roasted, weeds, flowers, burnt caramel, yeast, nuts, soap, sour coffee, unripe banana. Taste is neutral, grass, soap, hops, burnt caramel, weeds, minerals, flowers, hay, yeast, paper. Medium bitterness, soapy and watery mouthfeel. Don't know if it's the beer or the tap lines, but crap it is...

Bottle. Deep brown, opaque, moderate head of beige colour. Aroma: toasted malts, caramel, coffee, citrusy hops. Medium body. Taste: medium dry. Dark malts delivering toast and subdued caramel. Evident coffee that is a nice predict for the endind citrusy / earthy hop work. Outstanding balance. Good beer.

Lands halfway between an English and American brown, full of caramel, chestnuts, and hazelnuts, but also with an admirable U.S. hop streak, not dominant but enough to fight off any cloying esters. Mild chocolate comes through underneath, leading to a general malt parade of a pint. Decent pour, coming out a healthy red-brown with a slight off-white head and light lacing. Nose is pure caramel malt, nothing else. Texture’s right, full but brisk and creamy. Extra hops would be nice, but a solid brown as-is.
