This is an aggressive beer. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate an ale of this quality and depth. We would suggest that you stick to safer and more familiar territory—maybe something with a multimillion-dollar ad campaign aimed at convincing you it’s made at an independent brewery, or one that implies that their tasteless seltzer / fizzy yellow beer / whatever-the-hell will give you more sex appeal. Perhaps you think multimillion-dollar ad campaigns make all that junk taste better. Perhaps you’re mouthing your words as you read this.

We believe that pandering to the lowest common denominator represents the height of tyranny—a virtual form of keeping the consumer barefoot, stupid & led by the nose social media. Brought forth upon an unsuspecting public in 1997, Arrogant Bastard Ale openly challenged the tyrannical overlords who were brazenly attempting to keep the people chained in the shackles of poor taste. One glance around and it’s glaringly obvious: they’re winning...as of now. Yet we will not stop. Ever. Since the very beginning, Arrogant Bastard Ale has reveled in its unprecedented and uncompromising celebration of intensity. There have been many nods to Arrogant Bastard Ale…even outright attempts to copy it…but only one can ever embody the true nature of Liquid Arrogance! Hated By Many. Loved By Few.

A solid off-white head atop a rich looking deep amber-brown colour. The nose warns of the malt to come, with a touch of citrus hops. Roasted malt is the hallmark of the \"Bastard\" series. Secondary tastes include rich dark berries, citrus and piney hops, and toffee. Solid richness in the body works well with the soft carbonation. A clean sweetness that isn’t cloying helps smooth it all together. A really great beer, but I am not giving it extra \"Rogue\" points.

From March 11th 2007:

Pours from 22oz bottle(room temp) a clear deep amber with a huge head of foam that just won't quit. Solid layer with lots of lacing.

The smell is very hoppy. I note grapefruit in big abundance.

The taste on first sip is hugely hoppy. Lots of citrus that makes your mouth want to pucker but just before it does, the malt moves in and somewhat tames the hops. No, more than that. The malt actually takes over the flavour and I'm not talking really sweet caramel malt...wait...yes I am. Wow. You fooled me. ;^) Boy, is this a treat.

Further sips in and I'm getting more of the balanced flavours but mind you, while the hops and malt seem to be working in unison, I cannot deny that the said flavours are as big and bold as the great outdoors. Like the label says, this is an aggressive beer and it refuses to let you just sit there and reach a comfort zone; when you're sipping on it, it takes center stage and all others things going on around you become mere side shows. What an egotistical brew and...I'm loving it!

Bottom line: A fantastic brew that will earn your attention whether you wish to or not. Highly recommended!

Re-ratign after long and dignifed period of drinking ABA. Strong woody and hop notes make it a classic.

Canned. Pours deep amber with huge beige head. Basically both the aroma and taste are dominated by prominently bitter hops that are underpinned with well balanced sweet malty/caramel notes. On the palate it’s bittersweet first and laters turns to lingering bitterness. Not an overcomplicated beer, but surely a well made one.

Looks like I’m rating 2000 for the Arrogant Bastard!
I’ve had the Oaked version, and loved it, i’m quite anxious to try this one out!
Deep amber pour, thick juicy, sticky head. Aroma is thick juicy aromatic hops. Some nice earthy hops mixed in with piney resins, and some citrus. The flavour is also very hoppy, lots of pine, and some citrus in the end. Good malt to balance out the beer. Wicked bitter finish that stick to the back of my throat, what an awesome beer!

Blik gedeeld door Roelzie. Het is een troebel roodbruin bier met een volle beige schuim. Het heeft een aroma van kruiden. De smaak is vreemd kruidig, kardemom en hop.

Lattina.

From tap at Craft & Draft, Amsterdam. Aroma is big malt, plenty of caramel, toffee, hops, pine resin, fruits, tropical notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and heavily bitter. Body is above medium. Heavy and big beer, strong rich malty and bitter. Vey enjoyable.
