330ml bottle. Hazy, dark brown colour with average to huge, frothy, slowly osteoporosing, minimally lacing, off-white head; all settled, a thin, creamy layer of tiny off-white bubbles remains permanently. Fruity, woody, chocolately dark malty, spicy and slightly vinous aroma, notes of morello, blue grapes, some plum, cocoa, nutmeg, cinnamon, balsamico, a mild funky touch. Taste is tart, fruity, spicy, dry oaky, tannic vinous and minimally sweet, chocolately dark malty, notes of morello, blue grapes, blackcurrant, a touch of plum, some balsamico, nutmeg, cinnamon, cocoa, all around a sour, biting vinegar-like main line. Watery texture, prickly carbonation, astringent palate.

2009 bottle at home bought some time somewhere in Belgium. Red brown colour, small golden bubbly head. Aroma is fruity, dark, vinous, bit of brown sugar sweetness, maybe marzipan. Taste is nice. Pleasant sourness, no hint of the 13%. Wood, brown sugar again, maybe bit of cherry in the background. Nice fruitiness. Nice spritziness from the sourness. Really doesn't taste this strong! Lovely from de dolle as always. Rerate, 2013 version. Great fruity aroma, bit sour. Great taste, vinous, woody, nice sourness, can't feel booze, so fruity, almonds at end.

2004 version. Orange red brown color, like old wine. Glorious vinous aroma with wood, apple and cherry. Upcoming sourness. Very fruity and vinous. Aple, grapes, wood, rosted malt, caramel, cherry. Obvious alcohol. Very complex, with the greatness of Oerbier 15 years or so ago, but more alcoholic. A big beer in all senses of the word.

(330ml 2017 bottle from somewhere now forgotten) Pours rather hazy pale cola brown with reddish hints and a rapidly fizzing pale tan head. Notes of heavy oak, tannins, ruby port and madeira, grapes, tart cherries, a little dark fruit, rather high but not overbearing fruity acidity with some balsamic hints, red wine vinegar too, core of brown sugar and cola sweetness keeping the acidity in check. Quite crisp and mineral for a big dark sour, with fine cocoa bitterness adding richness and toast into the finish. Medium bodied and slick with high yet smooth carbonation. No sign of the 13% ABV at all. Beautifully crafted and unusual take on a Flemish brown type thing, this is a standout in style for its mix of complexity, drinkability and heft.

2013 vintage. 33 cl bottle served in its proper glassware. Hazy, dark, ruby red pour, with a tan head that leaves but a ring. Quite lambic-y and boozy in the nose. Cherries and strawberries galore, sour drop, a hint of coffee in the background. Bone dry, slick and oily mouthfeel and rather sour and tart flavor. Very long-lasting but totally bitterless. Gr-r-reat.
