Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a hazy amber with an off-white head. Fruity nose with a whiff of smoke. Medium body, sweet fruit - pineapple and peach - and again a whiff of smoke - a little licorice. Dryish finish. 121010

500 ml bottle. Hazy, dark orange body with a small and diminishing off-white head. Fresh fruity aroma with dark malt, herbs, caramel and hint of esters. Relatively mild, smooth flavor of sweet malt, fruit, tea and herbs. Nice, a bit sweet and would probably be even nicer with more bitter herbs. Very interesting experiment anyway.

Bottle at Håndverkerstuene. A hazy, dark golden beer topped by a big but rapidly disappearing off-white head. Herbal, lightly caramel aroma. Some peppery notes, myrica gale and a touch of acidity. Slightly sourish on the palate, but just a little touch. Peppery herbs, some notes of candy and low levels of bitterness. Some bitterness in the end. Full-bodied and slightly warming, with a low carbonation level. A nice beer indeed, even though I love hoppy beers, this proves one can make really good beer without it. Rating: 6-4-7-4-14-3.5. 100820

Bottle, at Patricks. It pours a small off-white head over a hazy, orange brown body. Hints of rubber on the nose, just a little whiff actually. Peaches, sugar and herbs, a little smoked touch too, and roasted malts. The flavor is pretty much the same, but not as pronounced as the aroma. Full body, and a herbal, bitter finish. Yup, I definitely like this one. 100923

Flaske 0,5l. Gave fra Rune: Hjertelig! Amber farge. Høyt skum som detter fort og forsvinner. Uklart. Innholdsrik aroma. Litt røyk & søt frukt. Lavt kullsyrenivå. Smaken er litt røyk. Litt plommer. Svisker. God, men lite variasjon.

50cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Hazy amber colour, disappearing fizzy white head. Aroma of malts, rye, sweet spices, coriander, cinnamon, alcohol. Flavour is sweet and spicy, light smoke, cinnamon, orange peel, alcohol, rose buds, spicy and alcoholic finish. Medium bodied, prickly carbonation. Tasty, but a bit cloying.

4oz sample @ Churchkey, DC. Woot this is just a real gem, outstanding gruit style. brown color, light off-white. strong herbal-with wormwood adding an anise like presence nose, hints of smoked malts. flavors, very herbal, a lot going on here, mostly herbs I had not even heard of before, malt, toffee, light smoke and caramel, molasses and some dark fruits. Overall profile is medium, though loaded with flavors, finish keeps this unique gruit inspired brew, definitely not the average beer, but I guess that’s what our ancestors used to drink.

50 cl bottle from De Bierkoning. Pours copper to brown, with a big head, quickly disappearing. Aromas of sweet fruit and sweet spices (ginger, anise, licorice). Rather sweet taste, but quite refreshing. Not much of an aftertaste. Nice enough, but I agree with altonbrownd - I miss the hops.

Draught at Churchkey. Muddy brown, large bubble edge head, scant lacing. Aroma of pine and butterscotch. Taste has ash, fire, brimstone and caramel. Good stuff.

500ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Vika in Oslo and consumed back home during the match between Germany and England on TV. Pours a huge, off-white head that dissipates very quickly leaving no lacing on the glass. Opaque orange, almost murky, body colour. Sweet dark fruits to the nose mixed with malts and with hints of yeast. Sweet taste of citrus fruits, herbal dryness, grass and wheat. Medium to full bodied. Interesting drink, but it gets way too sweet and is rather heavy to drink. In fact, disappointing considering the potentiality of the two brewers (faen med England!) (Tromsø, 27.06.2010).
