A sweet bitterness can be found in this powerful abbey beer. Grimbergen Optimo Bruno is made of high-quality raw materials and has a concentrated full-bodied taste and warm aftertaste. Brewed since 1988 and originally an Easter beer.

Light, generic malt aroma. Red with a small head. Malt and fruit flavors; the flavor is much better than the aroma. Medium body. Alcohol hidden well. Bottle was 2 years old.

Dark amber colour. Nice head. Somewhat sourish malt aroma. Mouth-filling sweet, malty flavour. The alcohol gives it warmth and bitterness.

(Bottle 33 cl) Dark golden beer, extremely full-bodied. Sweet, very sweet - no sickeningly sweet with some late hoppiness to prevent me from spewing. If you consider this as a dessert-beer it might have some raison dβetre. 300695

Reddish brown beer with a glow. The aroma is lightly fermented and the flavour is fruity, fermented and very strong. Overall a nice beer.

Bottled 33cl (BB 06/2005)
Nice red-amber color with small foamy white head. Fresh hoppy aroma with some anise and herbs. Medium to full bodied, oily palate with warming alcohol. Sweetish with fruity hops. Light bitter hoppy aftertaste. Very nice balanced brew, almost more like English than Belgium Ale.

Beautiful amber color; generous, creamy head. Intense aroma: malt, caramel, brown sugar, banana, orange peel. Very strong body, well bearing the alcohol content, warming. Round and malty, sweet in the front; orange peels and caramel, light liquorice. Would be perfect with some more fruitness (easier to find in the English Ales) and a more bitter final.

Confirm that the head does disappear fast. Nice spicy nose, nots of curacao, some maderisation (like a porto), in the mouth, the alcohol is very present, with candy sugar, some bitterness in after taste...enjoyable

Thick yellowish head, gone in seconds, but leaving the flimsiest of lace all over the glass. Deep brown beer with orange shine. Nose gives both portwine and perfume. Smells really like a (decent) fortified wine. Roasted and burnt malts in the taste. Licorice in abundance and burnt sugar. Some fruity esters too, but the above sugarmass doesn't leave it much chances. For all its body and oily feel, it has a rather thinnish texture. Alcoholburn prominent. The port flavour returns retronasal. If the bottle would bear the label "Trappist Ultimo Bruno", we'ld be all in ashes about "them going down". With the label Grimbergen the feeling is more as in "as expected". The portflavour (seen the BBd, unlinked to any ageing) is a really nice touch, however.

Looks like mixed with grenadine. Little bit sweet flavour. In despite of this, the flavour is apalling. Sweet, malt, bitter, it''s got almost everything.

A light amber beer with no head. It has no aroma. The flavor is very sweet, a bit sour and ending on a slight bitterness. An OK beer but nothing much.
