Wunderbar is a flavourful take on a German Kolsch. It offers up a clean pilsner malt profile fermented with an ale yeast and made with German noble hops. Prost!

16 oz can from Vancouver, BC. Thanks, Marco! Pours a hazy gold color with a large bright white head and excellent retention. Very good lacing. Pilsner malt aroma. Slightly sweet malt flavor with a soft bitter finish. Tastes like a mix of pale lager and Bohemian pilsner. A good, clean, smooth, and refreshing beer. Medium body and medium carbonation. Low bitterness.

Poured from the tap. Clear yellow gold with small white head. Cereal malt, hint of doughy character, very mild grass hops. Mostly crisp, but there’s a subtle heaviness from the doughy notes.

Soft aroma of vegetables, yeast, dirt from a winter garden. Modest head, foggy orange brown body, hidden carbonation. Flavour is swampy caramel, rotting bread, mouldy potatoes. Slightly coy on the mouth, good level of sugar. Not bad, good collection of funkiness.

650ml bottle. (5.0% ABV) Pours a hazy pale yellow with a medium, frothy, long lasting, white head that laces nicely. Sweet, floral aroma of pear, lemon, grain and grass. Sweet flavour of pear, lemon, bready malt and grain with a mildly bitter grass finish. Light body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. A pretty good kolsch.

Golden colour, chill haze, fairly large bubbles for a craft beer and medium-thick head. The aroma is a bit grainy, with some damp dog-smelling noble hops. Moderate bitterness, though hop character isn’t super fresh. The malts are pale, and a touch gooey (though one or two indigenous klsch also have that character. Finishes with more of those malts and some bitterness. The sense of balance is quite good but the individual elements aren’t all that bright.

Bottle, pours a clear pale yellow with a small white head. Nose brings out fresh cereal, forward grassy hops, as a really dry freshness. Flavour is similar, bringing out super fresh grassy hops, dry cereal malts, and cracker. Finishes almost lemony, with cereals and grass. A wonderful thirst-quenching hoppy kolsch.

2014-03-21 draught at the brewery
16oz

Served too cold. The aroma takes some time to develop, it’s more grassy than cereally, and it seems less delicate and more bitter than last week.

Hazy blond color with a green and gold hue; compact head. The aroma is subtle but fantastic, with end of summer fields of cereals, breadcrust, hay; I’m space traveling back to Germany. Lean, dry mouthfeel; the carbonation is slightly excessive; gentle crisp malt flavor, hint of cereals, and bold herbaceous hopping.
This really captured the essence of a kolsch!
