Our flagship beer, Loose Cannon wins people over at first smell. The carefully cultivated interplay of Simcoe, Palisade, and Centennial creates a most fragrant IPA - its nose bursts with notes of grapefruit, herbs, and pine. Bitterness is somewhat subdued by the floral quality that pervades the taste. The color is burnished gold, and the mouthfeel is creamy. A strong malt backbone balances out the triple-hopped beer. Its nickname, Hop3, comes from the brewing process: our brewers hop Loose Cannon in the boil, the hopback, and the fermenter. It won a second place CAMRA award at the 2010 Great British Beer Festival.

A very nice IPA! It combines a nice med-light body and refreshing drinkability with a full hop blast. Primarily the hops seem resiny, with some citrus in there somewhere. Some bready malts. Flavor is intensely resiny and tingly. Medium bitter finish, clean caramelly malts. Nothing amazing here, just a good hoppy ale. Appealing amber color with fluffy head.

Slightly hazy golden-amber colour. Massive, bright lychee and mango hop aroma with syrupy malts underneath. Well-balanced. The hops are strong, peachy, fruity, with a bit of mandarin. The malts are grain-crunchingly fresh pale and take the edge off the hop bitterness in beautiful fashion. Drinks bigger than it is, but that’s okay because it drinks well.

Poures a nice golden color with a small head. Had a nice aroma of citrus and hops as well as some pine lurking in the background. The taste was classic IPA. Had some tasty grapefruit and floral notes along with an enjoyable matliness to it. Finished with a nice hop bitter end. A very nice IPA

Cask at Long Island Real Ale Festival - clear golden with a slight cooper tint - very fresh hops in the aroma, as well as in the flavor - a decent amount of malt to back up the intense hop taste - a solid IPA, but nothing to write home about.

Thanks go to Darkover for the trade. Bright copper color with a medium thin soap-suds white head. Thin stringy lacing. The aroma is floral hops and citrusy. Medium-bodied with a fresh hops character. Caramel, fruit and piney hops interact well in the flavor. The finish is nicely bitter hops with a good malt undertone. This beer doesn’t go overboard (ha) with the hops like most IIPAs, and while I tend to like them that way this beer stands up pretty well by its own merits.

I am a hop fan so this beer was bound to appeal to me to some degree. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a bronze color with a small white head that fades quickly. The aroma begins with a sour tang and quickly moves into strong grapefruit and fruit cocktail notes. The flavor is intensely strong grapefruity hops with a sugary sweet undertone. Probably the strongest and deepest grapefruity flavors I have ever encountered in a beer.

Blind tasting on 09/26/2010. Clear golden body with a medium rocky off-white head. Sweet resiny citrus hop aroma. Resiny citrus hop flavor. Medium light body with moderate carbonation. 7/3/8/4/15 - 3.7 Dry hopped firkin at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 09/08/2009. Cloudy orange body with a large rocky off-white head. Sweet citrus and resiny hop aroma. Sweet citrus and resiny hop flavor on a pale malt background. Medium body with moderate carbonation. 7/3/7/4/15 - 3.6 From firkin, unfiltered and extra dry hopped at Capital Ale House - Downtown on 06/03/2009. Cloudy orange body with a large rocky off-white head. Very sweet floral and citrus hop aroma. Big citrus and floral hop flavor. Medium body with moderate carbonation. 7/3/8/4/16 - 3.8 11/24/2005: Orange pour with a creamy white head. Strong grapefruit aroma and taste. The grapefruit taste leads to the majority of the hoppiness. 6/4/8/3/14 - 3.5

Thanks to slob for sending this new one! This starts out with a clear deep orange/amber body with a sticky peaked head. Big malty hoppy aroma with citrus and fruit. Just on the bitter side overall with a good supporting malt that lies underneath. Rich and full body give it a filling mouthfeel. Very nice East Coast IPA that shows some strong West Coast origins.

New rating 6/9/17... it’s been nearly 12 years since I last rated this, and my old rating was ridiculously high. Let’s see if it maintains. Pours a pretty orange with a soft off-white head. Aroma is juicy citrus hops, light floral notes. Flavor is citrus hops, floral notes including rose hips, sweet caramel, tropical fruit. Yep, I still love this stuff, but am dinging it a little in the rating as I may have been overzealous. ___________ Old rating from 11/1/05: Appearance 4, aroma 10, taste 9, palate 5, overall 19 BOTTLE. Very pretty orangey-amber in color with a nice off-white head. Looks clean and crisp. I hate to reuse a word the brewer used, but the aroma is INTENSE. Lovely flowers, some fruitiness (citrus, mango, and passionfruit almost). Oh my god, it smells so good that I don’t even need to taste it (who am I kidding?). Holy cow, that flavor is amazing as well... it sure doesn’t get much better than this in an IPA for me (I only wish I had a sample of my favorite IPA by Southern Tier to compare this beast to). Anyway, a sip... lotsa flavors worked in there. Heavy sweetish hoppiness- starts with an island fruit flavor, followed by bitterness of grapefruits, followed by a nice pine... aftertaste intertwines the grapefruit and pine. This is near perfect, in my opinion.
