“No one enjoys their job more than I do -- producing and developing new brews to delight lovers of fine beer, add to that the opportunity to collaborate on a beer based on the cultural phenomenon of Game of Thrones and exploring ways to make the beer truly reflect aspects from the show. It made us approach development in a completely new way and I think the first edition Iron Throne reveals that. With a Lannister currently on the throne, it made sense to do a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops. Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, yet it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.” -Phil Leinhart, Brewmaster at Brewery Ommegang

Iron Throne has a slightly hazy golden amber hue. The head is full and fluffy. The finish is crisp, backed by a touch of spice and hops. The aroma is a bit grassy with a hint of lemon fruitiness from the lemon peel. The taste is lightly malty, rounded by honey malt sweetness.

Malt: Pils, Honey Malt, Aroma malt, Red wheat.
Hops: Styrain Golding, Hallertau Spalter Select.
Spices: Lemon peel, Grains of Paradise.

Pour slowly so as to not disturb the yeast sediment, but with enough vigor to create a luxurious head and release the rich bouquet.

Pours cloudy light orange with good head and lacing. Smells yeasty with almost a very light brett taste. I can taste the lemon peel here as well. Finishes a little sour with some peel astringency. Bottle thanks to Sammy.

750 ml bottle from Hampton Falls Village Market. Tulip glass displays a clear gold with foamy sticky lace. Pleasant nose of Belgian yeast with a light pepper spice. Flavor has light fruits, hay and grass with fruit flavors of apple or pear. Flavor of yeast is strong yet the body of the beer is light. Mouthfeel is smooth with light carbonation. This is not the most complex Belgian ale you will ever experience yet, it is well made from a larger brewery. Really easy to drink and tasty enough.

Pour is a hazy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is funky and fruity. Flavor is spicy, a little tart with some biscuit dry maltyness and a bit of green hops and Belgian fruity esters. Finish is very dry with a nice citrus fruit and chalky malts. This beer is getting crazy high ratings. While tasty and good I don’t thing this is in the 4 range. Not enough of the Belgain herbal/yeastyness came thorugh. I have never seen this t.v show so I don’t know what this beer has to do with it.

750ml poured into a tulip. And yes, i will be watching the show while drinking this. Pours a slightly cloudy, pale yellow with loads of thick, frothy head. Aroma of mostly spices and yeast with a little lemony citrus. Taste is light bitter and spicy. Yeasty with some citrus and spices. Medium bodied with loads of carbonation and a super long finish. Overall, really good. I hope they keep expanding on this series.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy gold with a creamy white head. Light earthy aroma. Near med body. Mildly malty with lots of fruity esters, including, I think, banana. Finishes lightly fruity, a touch spicy and earthy. Nice.

750 ml bottle on Game of Thrones premiere night. Poured a slightly hazy golden color with a large foamy white head. Aroma was spice notes, yeast notes, banana, grain notes. Flavor was mixed spice notes, sweet malts, banana character. People probably expected something a bit more bold, but enjoyed it.
