“No one enjoys their job more than I do -- producing and developing new brews to delight lovers of fine beer, add to that the opportunity to collaborate on a beer based on the cultural phenomenon of Game of Thrones and exploring ways to make the beer truly reflect aspects from the show. It made us approach development in a completely new way and I think the first edition Iron Throne reveals that. With a Lannister currently on the throne, it made sense to do a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops. Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, yet it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.” -Phil Leinhart, Brewmaster at Brewery Ommegang
Iron Throne has a slightly hazy golden amber hue. The head is full and fluffy. The finish is crisp, backed by a touch of spice and hops. The aroma is a bit grassy with a hint of lemon fruitiness from the lemon peel. The taste is lightly malty, rounded by honey malt sweetness.
Malt: Pils, Honey Malt, Aroma malt, Red wheat.
Hops: Styrain Golding, Hallertau Spalter Select.
Spices: Lemon peel, Grains of Paradise.
Pour slowly so as to not disturb the yeast sediment, but with enough vigor to create a luxurious head and release the rich bouquet.

Bottled. Golden pour and big white head. Yeast sweetness and very lite with hops finish. Really well balanced and despite the license tie in a great beer

Van het vat bij de brouwerij van De Koninck in Antwerpen. Waarschijnlijk het zelfde bier. Smaak is licht bitter hoppig en licht zoet. Niet echt bijzonder maar standaard bier wat mij betreft.

9 March 2019. At De Heeren van Liedekercke. Shared with the lovely Anke! Pours clear ochre with a big, lasting, frothy, white head; lots of lacing. Aroma of ripe banana, bubblegum almost, grass, honey, hay, white pepper, breadcrust, clove, apple peel. Taste is medium fruity sweet, quite estery, banana & pineapple slice on a bready, bit honeyish malty base; light spicy bitterness offers some balance with clove, pepper & a grass bite; only a very vaguel lemony sourish note too. Dryish, grassy hoppy finish, bit spicy, lingering banana & bread. Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Utterly Belgian Ale in my opinion, didn't know what to expect. Anyway, flavour-wise it's good.

Draught Textbook lace from huge yellow & dense head over very finely carbonated orange beer. Orangepeel, faint whiffs of Brett-like yeast (as Ommegeddon?), lightly coloured malts. Bitterish-herbal, again quite frankly (dried) orangepeel, dried mushrooms, spicy yeast. Malts rounding off. Not very well-bodied, good carbonation, faintly oily-slick. In the end, quite good. Better than the sum of its parts.

Draft glass @ De Koninck. New batch. Low hazy orange golden with huge creamy white head, lacing. Nose is soapy, cereal, paper, grain, soggy, low metallic. Taste is grain, cereal, esters, fizzy BE, phenolic, BE yeast, low paper, lively carbonation, pear. Lively esters. Fizzy BE esters brew, would much rather have a Duvel not sure as to why this scores so well in style.

22/I/19 - on tap @ De Geus van Gent (Gent), BB: n/a - (2019-126)
Clear orange beer, big creamy yellowish thick head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: pretty metallic, rusty nails, bit fruity, banana, hay, some cow fodder, orange peel. MF: medium body. Taste: malty start, sweet touch, spicy, some cloves, bitter touch, weird spicy touch, dry. Aftertaste: ripe to overripe banana, bitter, more cloves, some beans, sweet malts, more banana, metallic finish. Well, they got the iron part right...

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow-orange with a creamy white head. Aroma is fruity with a little coriander. Taste is super fruity but has a light citrus bite.

750ml bottle. Pretty much nails it for the style. Very authentic flavor profile and mouthfeel. On the lighter, perfect side of full bodied. Excellent doughy malt tones, champagne effervescence. Its not so different than a classic Belgian Ale...that’s why I love it.
