Originally brewed in England for the British troops stationed in India during the 18th century, increased amounts of hops and higher alcohol content (both natural preservatives) were needed for the beer to survive the long sea voyage. Medium body with high hop bitterness, flavour and aroma keep this beer true to its original style.

Medium hop aroma and metallc looing clear gold body with little head. Flavour is sharp hops and minimal maltiness. Full enough but just lacking. Straight ahead but at least mediocre.

Can - Earthy pine hops with a bit of sweetness and orange. Clear copper with a nice beige head. Tastes a bit orange and flat, with a low bitterness that only shows up in the finish. Pretty nondescript.

Draught at the brewpub
Light amber color, creamy head. Aroma of caramel and citrusy hops, hint of lemon cake. Lean body, with a mild caramel and toffee flavor, and a quite good hopping, carrying delicate resins, lemon zest, and a touch of lemongrass. Quite strong bitterness. Good.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy golden. Aroma of hops, grass, pine and citrus. Flavour is fruity hops, kind of peppery, with an overall smooth palate. Not bad.

Tap@Longwood. No nose. Hazy golden lacing cream. Straw and dusty maltyness, a bit leafy. The "Alt" had more hops - this is in fact the least hoppy of their beers I tried. Good chewy body. Soso.

Golden-straw colour. Bright. Amazingly, this is not one of their hand-pump offerings. Citric, minty aroma with bready pale malts in the background. Grapefruity palate with moderate bitterness. A little bit thin but the pale malts come through nonetheless. Finish leans towards sweetness, carrying forward some grapefruit but not so much co-humulone.

hop accented and registers in at a hefty 6.8% and really is nothing outstanding, but if you wanted an absolutely typical hoppy PNW beer, this would be spot on and that is why it get a couple of marks more
