From the heart of the Emerald Triangle, Humboldt Haze Imperial Wheat IPA is a flavor packed hop odyssey with the rowdy character of the west coast style.

Brewed as an over the top high gravity American Wheat ale, Humboldt Haze pours a deep burnished golden orange with a brilliant white head. Bounteous aromas of exotic tropical fruits and citrus reign, while a subtle balm of toasted wheat and caramel malts heighten anticipation of the first sip. Resinous explosions of hop bitterness are soothed and harmonized by the silky characters of light, sweet wheat and mild caramel flavors. Then it’s on to a massive fruity cornucopia of citrus, passion fruit, mango and papaya with hints of white grape, lychee and pine. The boldly hoppy and resplendently balanced finish entices you back for more… and more… fascinating the senses anew with each savor. Enjoy!

Hazy deep copper and bronze coloured body with a thinnish, one centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of alcohol, sweetness, apricots, pungent tropical and floral hops and a mellow yeast note at the end. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong biting alcohol and earthy malt flavour up front that gives way to a smooth yeast flavour and a very nice hop kick from herbal and citrusey hops. Aftertaste shows a nice blend of malt/wheat and hops with a tropical sweetness and a bit of a herbal and dry oaky kick at the end from yeast. Overall, a nice and rather complex wheat-based IPA with not too many traditional wheat flavours going through, but light and airy, for sure. I sampled this stubby twelve ounce bottle purchased from Zupan’s in Portland, Oregon (Belmont St Location) on 07-December-2013 for US$2.99 sampled at home in Washington on the opposite end of this country on 01-April-2014.

Hazyt, orange-amber with a short yellow-tan head. Brightly tropical scent....orange, pineapple, banana..... Fruitcake, orange, biscuit taste...caramel, brown sugar. Sweet, fruity with a floral/tropical bitter... Complex tastes and aromas......a lot of little, different nuances here and there. Pretty darn good.

On tap at Bailey's, pours a clear golden with a medium off-white head. Aroma give me off loads of wheat, followed by some subdued piney hops and biscuity malt. Flavour is extremely wheaty and hoppy, bringing out the best of both worlds - with dry wheat, piney hops and some metallic notes. Not the smoothest or well-balanced IPA by any means, but decent enough and drinkable.

Keg at the Pony Bar UES - NYC. Pours hazy gold with a lasting, tight cream head. The nose has some bubblegum, white bread, yeast, melon and orange, along with hints of alcohol. Medium sweet flavor, mildly boozy, some further bubblegum, pale bread, melon, lemon peel, tangerine. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with slightly astrigent alcohol, further melon and tangerine, moderate bubblegum. Nothing special.
