Bottled@Monks Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Orange colour, small white head. Aroma is fruits, wood and some slight cardboardy notes as well. Flavour is the same with caramel and mild notes of earth and herbs.

Bottled at Monk’s Café Sveavägen, Stockholm. Clear deep golden, minimal head. Bready aroma. Mid-sweet with clean mouthfeel. There’s metal, dough and lingonberry. Drier finish withlow bitterness. Correct but a bit sterile.

Pour is a clear copper with a large white head. Aroma is some sweet malt with a plastic following. Flavor is again a nice malt with a little hop bitterness at the end. Nothing great but a decent enough amber ale.

2005 bottle from Robertsreality, who sent me practically every Capital beer! Orange golden body, bit of a chill haze, though not as hazy as the other capitals I’ve had. Off-white head is immediately dissipating to nothing. Aroma has lots of lightly sour yeast, bits of hard vienna malt and old bread. I wasnt as sold on this one as the others. A little bit meaty, quite sour/sweet, with too much breadiness, and light buttercream. Medium to medium-light body. Not a bad balance and a somewhat watery, though pleasing, drinkable mouthfeel. Moderate to low carbonation. I usually love all yeast flavors, perhaps it’s some acidic mash flavors that I don’t like? Not sure. Will have to try again.

Darkish amber, medium fading head. Aroma a little substandard. Hop levels low, a bit of a woody mushroomy presence at most. Typical. Clean and sweetish palate, but I’d prefer something more along the lines of an "authentic" vienna with those richer juicier vienna malts. With this instead I get a light caramel flavor, a tinge of butterscotch. I would take this to be Capital’s attempt at something a little more accessible, but of course they succeed by foregoing character and authenticity.

Viennas just aren't my style. This beer poured amber-orange with a thin off-white head. Nice floral hoppy aroma with sweet malts. I simply found the flavor and body to be lacking- the floral hops flavors are nice but the malts left a "sugar water" impression on me, leaving a very sweet but short-lived flavor followed by watery blandness. The beer also had a somewhat tangy middle. Boring.

Canned, Aug 2, 2010. Revisiting this beer after 7 years and in a new canned package. Pours a nice presentation in a Sam Adams glass: Light amber color, rich malty head that turns into rocky foam after well over a minute. Smell is kind of nondescript, compared to my enthusiasm back in my year of rating. Taste is malty and pretty smooth, a little lager bite here and there. Okay, so I’m no longer writing home about it. But I’m thinking they are selling a lot more of this flagship style these days, so it’s moved towards more mass appeal. But I’m fine with seeing more local brew in cans. Bottled. Aug 7, 2003. A pleasing little malty brew. Nice beery aroma when you crack the bottle. Pours like most bottled beer, with an even head that fades to a nice little lace. A roasty malt taste brings notes of caramel or molasses. Hops flavor very mild. Again, a fine representative of the style, and I hope Capital will sometime take the chance to do something a little more extreme. Original rating: 7-3-7-4-14=3.5
