"Hofbrau" in German means "the brew of royalty." Trader Joe’s Hof Brau Bock is a fine example of the regal brewing traditions still found in Germany today. This outstanding bock is golden in color, very rich and moderately hopped. 22 IBUS. Brewed with three types of imported malts, Hallertau aroma hops and lager yeasts.

12 oz. bottle. JosephsBrau label . Amber in color with small fast dissipating head, no lace. Aroma is sweet bread and light grassy hops. The taste has some light caramel along with hints of cereal grains. A bit on the bland side but still really drinkable for the price. $1.08 per bottle at my local Trader Joe’s.

Pours gold into a shaker. Bright white head with little retention recedes to skim surface leaving spot lacing. Caramel and hay aromas. Soft with sweet caramel and clove upfront turning to earthy dough in the lasting finish.

Dark blond in colour. This beer has a sweet cornmalt flavour. Really lacks depth.

Bottle (JosephsBrau label). Buttery malt and light alcohol aroma. Golden yellow with large head. Slightly sweet buttery barley malt and bitter herbal hops and alcohol flavor. Diacetyl overload.

bottle pours deep gold with a thin white head. Aroma is bready and yeast. Fresh baked goods. Flavor is breaded malts, nutty at times with a finish of earthen hops and dry mouthfeel.

Bottle @ home. Clear, light, golden orange appearance with a white head. Little toffee, sweet malty, mild hoppy nose. Very sweet, light caramel, incredibly malty flavor with a surprisingly bitter finish. Completely unbalanced and not good.

bottle - Pours golden with a one finger white he3d and an aroma of grainy malt with light fruit notes. The flavor is dominated by sweet malt and has some good mild hops balance. The overall feel of this light bodied brew is fairly bland though. It’s alright.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden with a white head. Aroma of biscuits with tones of sweet honey and apple. Flavor has the apple, biscuit, and honey, but with definite alcohol notes. Just okay.
