Eight malts add depth and complexity, while English hops contribute a refreshing balance to this crisp and drinkable mild brown ale - a true "session" brew.

Bottle: Cola-brown with a short, oatmeal head. Slightly metallic, nutty aroma. Taste is watery, coffee grounds, bark, earthy hops. Ok, but extremely watered-down.

5oz sample pour at Oasis. Filtered ruby amber-brown. Thin, oily head. Not unlike a British Mild, but with a soapier, more bitter hop balance. Caramel, nutty, light chocolate, lots of depth. Clean, well brewed offering. A great session beer.

Bottle. Light chocolate malt aroma. Medium brown with small head. Smooth nutty cocoa malt flavor. Nice body. A great straight forward mild ale - wish more US breweries would try this style.

Purchased at City Provisions in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a nice Friday night hanging out at home watching a Nirvana documentary. Appearance is a slightly transparent dark caramel with a rich white head. Aroma is light but rich in sweet/caramel malt. Taste is pretty damn delicious, goes down smooth with a nice crispness mixed with light bitterness, slightly creamy. Great session ale.

Bottle, best before 8/7/06, drunk on 3/16/06
Sandy-beige head never falls below cover, with minor lace in small, blotches. Clear, coppery-orange colored body, with only a light brown color in the center.
Graham crackers and a dry whole wheat toastiness give open the aroma with a crunchy, dry, toasty note, allowing a light honey and mild chocolate note to slowly creep in and soften things. Dry, lightly burnt wood notes (very faint) keep things piquant. Medium strength.
Milky chocolate, with light peanut brittle immediately balancing. Light touches of buttercream, light, watery coffee add complexity with a hint of diacetyl that is very welcoming and soothing. Probably the most successful part of this low gravity session beer is the very low carbonation allowing the malts to adequately soothe the palate, remaining creamy enough to allow plenty of flavor to set in. No hops, no alcohol. Earthy, dry, roasted malt notes prevent it from ever getting too sweet. Very balanced, very drinkable. Successful on many levels. Just a bit watery, otherwise.

Draft, at South Water Market, downtown Chicago It's appropriate that this scores in the 50th percentile at this writing, because it's exactly as advertised, a decent “session” beer and much to be thrilled about. A thin head that leaves rings above a pleasing dark brown body. Slightly fruity ale nose. The agreeable roasty malt flavor that has a peek of darker roasts, like it had rubbed elbows with a porter on the subway. Discernable English hops balance the malt sweetness. No more or less than a good session ale.
