Dunkelweizen translates into "dark wheat" and the beer is a darker version of the Bavarian wheat beers of the 15th century. Dark amber brown in color, this unfiltered ale is brewed with traditional Bavarian yeast, which imparts a wide spectrum of flavors and aromas from spicy clove and nutmeg to tropical fruit and banana. The result is a beer that is complex and flavorful, medium-bodied with a crisp finish.

Bottle from variety pack. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium white head that burns away steadily. Stringy lacing. Aroma of malt, toasted bread and cloves. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, fruit, sweet spices and a touch of caramel. The finish is sweet with a fruity aftertaste. Pretty average overall.

Malts, caramel, some light toasted notes, and some banana in the aroma. Medium bodied, maybe a touch thin. Some light roasted caramel malts, deep fruits, banana, and a bit of wheat spice. A fairly decent DW, but only worth it cause it’s part of the seasonal variety pack. Still, I can’t say much bad about it.

12oz bottle. Accidentally froze it but it seems to have survived. Unfiltered brown-amber color. Fades to a thin head that rims the glass. Sweet and medium bodied, some chocolate-banana tones. I get some other fruity tones as well. Medium bodied, quite fresh and enjoyable. Not as much depth as some true Bavarian examples, but still a decent effort, true to style.

12 oz bottle into dimpled mug. Bought the fall variety pack at Super I in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. Nice Bavarian aroma, filled with lots of clove and a bit of roasted nut. Pours a hazy orange with a medium sized head that diminishes into a blanket of foam in a couple of minutes, leaving some nice lace. Taste is sweet, not overly so, with no bitterness and a touch of sour in the finish. Carbonation is medium to medium-high. Body is medium to full; oily texture. Overall, a very nice attempt at a true Bavarian wheat.

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange copper with a medium creamy off white head that leaves spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is clove and banana with bubblegum. Medium mouthfeel with a crisp bready malt with banana and light citrus. Easy to drink, a good dunkel from Sam Adams.

Appropriate appearance, dark brown and a tall, lacing head. No sediment or yeast of course. All of the flavors are there, the very lightly roasted grain, wheat, banana, a little coriander, but they are lighter than the standard German examples. Still, a drinkable beer, no flaws really, even though it lacks full flavor.

Pour is a cloudy brown with a large tan head. Aroma is a decent helping of wheat and cloves. Flavor is a very light banana and clove and finishes very watery. This is a very thin example of the style.

Bottle thanks to blutt59. Pours with a small tan head over a clear copper body. Aroma of banana, rye and husky wheat. Taste is watery with clove, wheat and some esters. Fizzy and watery.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Gilly's, 8/26/09, I made them crack open the Harvest pack into singles so I could buy 1 of these without having to get the whole 12 pack

Aroma: Wheat, lemon, banana, clove, mild spice
Appearance: Slightly hazy orange-amber color, fluffy white head
Flavor: Spice, malty wheat, bready and citrus flavors blend alright with the spice
Palate: Light to medium in body, pretty fizzy, drinkable, smooth
Overall Impression: You know, this beer is alright, but it certainly isn't great. It is a little light on flavor and character for me, though it appears that others liked it more then I did.

**Just submitted a Photo for this one as well, as it was missing one.
