A thick Imperial Stout created in collaboration with Billie’s Bier Kafeteria - brewed as the official festival beer for Billie’s Craft Beer Fest 2019.

Taste: Chewy caramel and baked bread comes out first, before being washed down by thick freshly poured Italian espresso and orange marmalade. A powerful roasted dark chocolate character comes through, with some warming alcohol to keep you as warm as a hug from Billie himself.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is roasted malt with liquorice, burnt and ashy notes, some alcohol. Flavour is sweet with quite some roasty bitterness. Body is medium to full. Okay but a bit hot with too much liquorice for my taste, seems rushed. I've had better from Põhjala.

Bottle from Daliy Delis, Amsterdam.
A: hazy black, thin, beige head.
A: tobacco, charred wood, fondant, espresso, brandy.
T: sweet plum, fondant, bitter coffee, wood.
F: earthy hops, tobacco, wood, some boozy brandy alcohol.
P: medium body, thin oily texture, soft carbonation.
Bit too alcoholic, even though it's not a BA version.

BO 12112019. Black, gluggy, near flat. Smells roasty, coffee. Thick mouthfeel, pretty chunky. Taste is roast over roast. Plenty of toasted coffee, bit of salty soy sauce, some burnt toast. Not that sweet, for a Pohjala! Just a solid no-nonsense imp. stout

Black with dark creamy head. Aroma and flavour have really intense bittersweet roasted malts. Hints of coffee. Very rich, oily and full bodied.

Dik, zoet, roosterig, chocolade, wat drop, de korst van goed meergranen brood. Er gebeurt genoeg. Lange nasmaak, beetje verwarmend.

330ml bottle. Jet black colour with small, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, tan head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, coffee, treacle, toffee, nutty overtones. Taste is bitter, roasty dark malty and bitter hoppy, notes of liquorice, burnt coffee, some treacle; warming alcoholic finish. Oily to viscous texture, minimally pungent palate, fine but efficacious carbonation supports the pungency of the bitter flavours. Exceptionally a brew from Põhjala that doesn't strike my pleasure unduly.
