Thin off white head left a collar on an unclear reddish brown still body. Spices, cinnamon, winter berries, spices apple & pot pourri aroma. Medium to thin bodied, soft on the palate with short tingly back. Malt, spices, Winter berries, cinnamon, clove & ginger with nice hoppy finish. Berry Christmassy!

Bottle at home in Beer Hawk advent calendar. Last bottle from the Beerhawk advent calendar. A flat pour with no head and not much nose. I was wary, but the spices were subtle and didn’t dominate the beer. The taste was a bit medicinal and the beer was quite poor. This was a bad beer to end the calendar and overall I thought the selection was weak.

Can from Morrisons. Medium brown in colour, with a slight, off-white, head. A sweetish beer, with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and leafy hops, berry fruits, toasty malts and a gentle finish. Fine.

Keg @ Crown & Kettle, Manchester. Very dark with next to no head. It’s a spiced dark malt ale with a sticky-sweet texture and taste.

Bottle. Turner’s, Sheffield. Lovely screen printed artwork on this. Pours cola brown. Film of pale tan head. Nose has nutmeg, cinnamon and brown sugar. All that festive thing. Taste is cola sweet. Gets dry and cinnamon like. Light body. Light sugary finish. Not my cup of tea.

Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black and shiny. Off white head. Very much cola like. Nose - Christmas spices and dark malt. Taste - nutmeg and ginger primarily. Coffee and chocolate at the back. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet crunchy texture and a long dry crunchy finish. Overall - yes, a bit heavy on the spice but the malts came through strongly and it was more enjoyable as I went down the glass.
