Hand pulled half pint on 21st January 2025, lunchtime. Kings Head, Leicester. Deep ruby red body, cream coloured head. Malty with winter berries and chocolate flavours. Nice and warming.

Cask at Old Bell, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with minimal tan head and good lacing. There’s roasted malts and nuts in the aroma, plus some traces of plums. In the mouth it is smooth and creamy with a slight sweetness on balance. Flavours are roasted malts and dark fruits at the start but chocolate comes in quite strongly after a while. Some hints of nuts as well. Fruitiness is enhanced in the finish. This is quite nice – though Red seems an odd choice of name for a stout.

Cask @ Hedley Verity, Leeds. Very dark with a creamy off-white head. Strong with hints of spice and a smoothish tasting winter fruitiness.
