Take your time with this luxury ale. It is large and takes a while to slow down. You might be unsinkable but if you are not careful you might find yourself decommissioned. Roasted matls and cacao nibs bring a complexity which you might not remember if you have too many of these attempting to raise its mysteries from the depths.

473mL can. Pours very dark brown with thin beige head. Aroma is nutty with roasted malt and cacao. Flavour is quite strong with heavy nutty and roasted malt flavours. Boozy warmth on the finish. Pretty heavy-handed but the flavours themselves are well done. Good beer.

Black, brown head. Nose of brown sugar, cocoa and booze. Thinner and muted flavor, boozy with vague cocoa. Disappointing

Draft pour at Container, Vancouver as part of my Oakes why are you so grumpy series. Jet black pour. Espresso tan foam head. Bold chocolate notes, sweet caramel but not overly rich. Soft banana note in the background. Banana bready finish. Toasty, robust, and drinks smoothly. Unique and quite tasty.

473ml can. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy, long lasting, tan head that leaves curtains of lace. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, licorice, earth and coffee. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, licorice, dark chocolate, date and coffee in a dry, mild bitter, warming booze finish. Full body with a creamy, smooth, soft, oily texture and soft carbonation. Tasty and enjoyable. Would love to try an aged version.

Poured from 473mL can. Black with full tan head. Mild licorice, subtle alcohol heat permeates, mild roast malt, cacao nib, tarry texture. Unabashedly big, but with a little refinement, could be excellent. As it is, still needs a bit of work.

A deep dark stout with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, bitter chocolate with coffee grind, musty character, alcohol warmth, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, light vanilla, light coffee, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at brewery.

473 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with full tannish head. Aromas of fruity alcohol and mild roasted malts. Flavors of same with a bit if sweet vanilla. Almost perfumey on the finish. Hot and odd. Needs a bit of work.

Sort of tarry, bit of alcohol. Light choc but not great, sort of messy.

On tap at Container, pours a motor oil black with a small tan head. Nose is heavy, with alcohol, roasted malt, and some cocoa - seems a little chaotic. Flavour is big and brutal - with intense roasted malt, gentle alcohol, some husky earthy notes, and a hint of espresso. Not the most refined or elegant impie, but it's balanced reasonably well and quite tasty overall. This is good.
