Imperial Brown Ale brewed with maple syrup and fenugreek

After nearly a decade, Game of Thrones has come to an end, and My Watch Has Ended expresses the state of Westeros after six seasons of war and bloody mayhem. As the drama unfolded, we brewed more than a dozen beers in partnership with HBO to accompany the seasons. My Watch Has Ended is a fitting close to this epic story. Enjoy My Watch Has Ended this fall with friends as you reminisce about your favorite episodes, your favorite characters, and your speculations on what, if anything, will come next.

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with little head. Aromas of brown sugar, sweet toasted malts, and a hard to place spice (fenugreek?). Flavors of maple syrup, metallic Belgian yeast, and sweet toasted malts

Bottle. Brown body with a tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, molasses, maple, nuts. Sweet start, lightly bitter finish. Medium body, watery/sticky texture, moderate to lively carbonation. Sweet but not cloying. Taste of maple and molasses. Enjoyable.

750 c&c from Cap Tap. Pours very dark brown with a decent tan head. Aroma of smooth burnt or roasted malt with some maple notes. Arguably full bodied. Flavor is semi-burnt sugar with some maple. There's something besides maple - perhaps that's the maple-like fenugreek. Kind of like dry bush with maple aspect. Anyway, it is surprisingly dry, and something is providing a bitterness. So a roasty brown ale with maple and herb aspects. Good drink.

The Aromas are across between traditional Brownell and kind of a dark Belgian ale. Aromas are some roast, cocoa, Belgian yeast and raisins. Flavors lose almost all of the brown ale qualities, sweet, little bitterness slightly soft carbonation and a little metallic in the Finish. Maple comes through but not to any real advantage.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass; bottled on 9/25/2019, best before 9/25/2021. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/copper/brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup, fenugreek, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, licorice, raisin, plum, prune, apricot, fig, date, red apple, smoke, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, maple syrup, fenugreek; and light-moderate earthy hop, fruit/spicy yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup, fenugreek, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, licorice, raisin, plum, prune, apricot, fig, date, red apple, smoke, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, woody, grassy, roasted bitterness; and peppery yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, maple syrup, fenugreek, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, brown bread/crust, milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, vanilla, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, maple syrup, fenugreek; and light-moderate earthy hop, fruit/spicy yeast flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet and spiciness balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, and moderately creamy/silky/bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is an awesome imperial brown ale. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, maple syrup, fenugreek; and light-moderate earthy hop, fruit/spicy yeast flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp to drink with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish; nicely soft feel. Awesome balance of rich malts, maple syrup, and fenugreek spice flavors; with solid earthy hop presence/balance, and restrained Belgian yeast. Light residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressive Belgian style example as expected of the brewery.
