Double IPA with raspberry, maple syrup and cinnamon (a combination of additions I would rather associate with a stout – but I guess putting the consumer on the wrong track is partially the intention here, like with that ‘white stout’ thing… Can from Kantien, shared with Craftmember, Hinke and Goedele. Egg-white, moussy, thinnish, opening head on a hazy peach blonde beer with orangey tinge. Aroma of indeed sweet and sugary raspberry jam, cantaloupe, biscuit, some moist cinnamon indeed, maple syrup in an almost marmalade-like way, brioche bread, mango, minerals, apricot tartelette, mace, plastic roses. Sweet onset, raspberry jam again but lacking in the tart and tomato-like natural flavour of actual raspberry, apricot, maple syrup sweetness again somewhat marmalade-like (I guess a bit ‘deformed’ in my head due to the unlikely IPA environment), soft carb with fluffy mouthfeel; creamy brioche-bready ‘soil’ under ongoing raspberry and maple syrup sweetness, both still feeling a bit candy-ish rather than genuine, a sprinkle of cinnamon added in the end along with citrusy hops, here remaining in the background though still effectuating a faint touch of grapefruity bitterness somewhere. Light toastiness and a plastic-like effect in the end too. Weird, not very convincing in its ingredients – but ‘decadent’ indeed. I think the idea as such is not necessarily a bad one, in the larger whole of milkshake and other flavoured IPAs, but I also remain convinced that it can be done much better than this. Sometimes it is more rewarding to think about actual flavour details rather than to show off and impress the young hipsters with weird flavour combinations…

Can from Deconinck. Pours hazy ochre with a lasting, thin, off-white head. Aroma of unripe raspberry & strawberry, maple syrup, pancake, biscuit, clove. Taste has sweetish apricot, maple syrup & pancake, quickly added spiciness of cinnamon & clove, sprinkled with raspberry & strawberry. Dry, spicy, earthy hoppy finish, fruit peel, mandarin rind, not your typical DIPA fruitiness, maple syrup & liqueur alcohol in the back. Medium body, slick-oily texture, medium carbonation. Interesting brew, perhaps a bit 'too much'.

Can. Light haze on this gold beer, good bubbly pale cream colour head. Airy palate, fairly dry, decent fine carbonation. Thin but pleasing raspberry jam and mild raspberry candy, a little pippy bitterness blends well with the mild citric bitterness and some piney hop. The cinnamon is obvious at first but then fades in the background. The maple is not that obvious at all. Finishes light and bestows some raspberry sherbet burbs. Better than I was expecting but I still feel like I want to reign these brewers in a little.

Pours rather unclear amberblonde. Small white head. Smell is very weak, mild raspberry, sharp. Taste is full, raspberry, overly phenolic, plastic. maple is hidden, feels a bit plastic. herbal, raw raspberry . Bit bitter.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned in 8/2019. Pours opaquely hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber/light reddish color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lightly tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, cinnamon, wood, light peppercorn/pine, maple syrup, vanilla, cream, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/light earthy hops, raspberries, maple syrup/sugars, and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge lightly tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, cinnamon, wood, light peppercorn/pine, maple syrup, vanilla, cream, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness; berry tang/tartness; and cinnamon spiciness after the finish. Lingering notes of lightly tart/tangy raspberries, fruit skin/seeds, mandarin orange juice, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, cinnamon, wood, light peppercorn/pine, maple syrup, vanilla, cream, honey, wheat, white bread dough, biscuit, light toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/light earthy hops, raspberries, maple syrup/sugars, and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness and tart/tangy fruit balance; with no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness and tart/tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/acid/tangy mouthfeel that is fantastic. Slight lingering resins/rinds through the glass. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.6%. Overall this is an incredible fruited/spiced NEDIPA. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/light earthy hops, raspberries, maple syrup/sugars, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/tart/drying finish; fantastic soft/silky feel. Feels like Citra/Mosaic as with most of their DIPAs. Super juicy hops/fruit, with light dank/earthy notes; with perfectly balanced sugars and wheat/oat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstadning spot on style example as expected. Right on par with most of the others.
