Drucken på fat på Malmö Brygghus Belgian Craft Beer Festival i Malmö, Sverige. Smak och doft av trä, toner av te, torr, stram med fruktiga toner. Speciellt men gott.

Oak aged ‘bitter ale’ by Brabant, 75 cl bottle from Etre Gourmet. Strong gusher as feared, with the beer streaming out of the bottle during opening. Medium thick, off-white, lightly lacing, relatively stable head, hazy warm golden robe with ochre-ish hue, deeper and almost beige-ish with sediment, becoming all murky. Aroma of dried old lemon peel, dusty old cupboards and rugs, dry parsnip, parsley root, vanilla of the wood peeping through in warming up, jute bags filled with apples, dry earth, fermenting hay, old bread. Fruity, estery onset but not sweet, hinting at red apple peel and dried peach as well as touch of gooseberry, dryness continued in the middle with fizzy carbonation and dry-bready maltiness further dried by a deep tartness (almost very dry white wine-like) and eventually by tannic woodiness and a deep, earthy, quinine-like, long-lasting hop bitterness, dried wormwood- and bitterroot-coloured and well-integrated in the dusty woodiness which weighs heavily on the finish. Ends rooty, dry, complex, tart and earthy. Idiosyncratic saison-ish Brabant ale – this brewery never fails to surprise me. Very enjoyable, if a bit demanding and bizarre in certain respects.

Thanks to the RB crew for sharing! Sampled draft @ BXLBeerFest 2018! Dark amber orange. Nose is dirty grainy, sweet syrup, brett, dirty wine. Fizzy dry spoiled grain & wine, dirty, malty, not perfect but nice & interesting.
