Got this big pounder can from whole foods in bedford NH. I found out the ABV on this finder bullshit can vary anywhere from 6.5% to 8% depending on the batch. My can currently says its 7%. It has a big foamy head, its hazy and off yellow. The flavor of this is green nasty nellie grapefruit rind and its a little sharp as far as astringency goes, it almost borders on the concerns of immature brewer, but not quite. I think of shipyard generally as a macro brewer who always wants to get on the bandwagon and this stuff does a pretty good job of riding the double impy IPA train. Although its really an IPA that has some impy IPA attributes, its OK by me to classify this as a imperial or double if need be. Yes, it has a big rude pine thick tar aftertaste that is hard to ignore. But, depending on your ABV experience, it also may or may not have the ABV content to carry it into the euphoria of the alky content needed to make it a impy double. There you have it, another one of gahzillion IPA out there. Everybody makes them, and they all practically taste the same.

16oz can pours a murky orange with a finger and a half of white head. Nose has big orange juice, vinous notes, soap. Flavor is more West coast than East, big citrus rind, hand soap, herbs. Finishes bitter with a hint of booze.

Ever so slightly hazy golden and peach coloured body with a bit of a copper glow and a fairly thin and relatively fast-dying off-white head, only three centimetres tall at maximum. Aroma of astringent malts, light grain, a dash of flowers, some metal and a hint of alcohol towards the end with some relatively traditional hop scents of pine, grass and earthiness. Medium-bodied; Strong malt bite at first that hits with earth, grain, nuts and flowers with a light funky floral characteristic and some piney and PNW hops with the associated bitterness and alpha acids, akin to a plain East Coast IPA. Aftertaste is dry, floral, grassy and even piney with a good hit of malts, perhaps more of those than the hops with this one. Overall, a relatively straight-forward, 'plain' East Coast IPA (not New England in any sense of the phrase) with an almost West Coast IPA bite (or at least PNW) and bitterness from the hops used, but no fruits, not really any haze and absolutely no 'juiciness' quotient here at all. Nice enough to try, but not anywhere close to what I was expecting from this one. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Total Wine in Manassas, Virginia on 28-April-2020 for US$3,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 26-August-2020.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 4/17/2018. Pours very hazy/cloudy deep golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, guava, berries, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, wood, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/resins. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready/grainy, fairly sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. No warmth of 7%. Overall this is a very nice NEIPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Very juicy, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness from lingering dryness. More resinous/drying than I expected, but it's a really enjoyable attempt on the style. Loved the hop profile as expected.

Can from Corti Bros. Pours translucent gold with a foamy white head. Aroma is tropical/citrus. Med body. Flavor gang agley immediately. The malt is not pleasant for me. The fruit is rendered "off". It does have grapefruit, even rind, and some tropical aspects, but the beer is unpleasant to me. There's a "cooked" aspect that's disturbing. Other than that it hits a number of good notes. Bitter is one. Fruity is another. With time I got accustomed to the flavor aspect that bothered me. So I upped the rating from 2.9.

From the can. Grapefruit and pineapple aromas. Soft with sour citrus and resin upfront turning to dry pith in the lasting finish.

Can purchased at the brewery in Portland. Pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a soapy off-white head, average stay and some foamy lacing. The nose is quite hoppy with grassy notes, like on the greener side of the grass. Citrus hints in the background, and a little more present in the taste. Mouthfeel is fairly dry with enough bitterness. Kind of between an IPA and a New England IPA. Decent, but not juicy enough compared to hoppy.

A bit too hoppy for me.

Sample at The Thirsty Moose Manchester. Hazy deep yellow color without much of a head. Bready malt light butterscotch lots of pine citrus and resin. I hated it less than I thought I would, the diacetyl seemed restrained or overpowered by some of the other flavors.
