Slumbering for 18 months, Ghosts in the Forest is a blend of beer from The Lost Abbey Oak Foeders and a few select French oak barrels. This blonde sour focuses on the complexity of Brettanomyces and oak.

“When we first got these massive Foeders, we knew we were going to have to be patient and let the oak work it’s magic” said Tomme Arthur, COO and Co-Founder of The Lost Abbey. “We’ve since added 3 additional vessels, creating our own “forest” and we’re really excited to start to blending these beers into future creations.”

Hazy, blonde. Not much head. There’s some pedio on the nose, with a light woody note. On the palate, this has a light pale malt, a fair bit of tartness, with a touch of berries, maybe some wood. Good balance, touch of brett…the pedio doesn’t show through nearly as much on the palate as the aroma.

375ml bottle from at Alex's. Pours a hazy blonde with a white head. Aroma is fruity and barrel, similar to Gueuzes. Similar taste. Not enough body. Fairly interesting.

Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers this beer poured a murky yellow color with a huge foamy white head that lingered forever and left good lacing. The aroma was dry, chalky and perfumey. The flavor was dry and chalky with perfume and citrus. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.

Draft pour to a snifter at Toronado, Seattle. Glad to be one of the very few to rate the draft format of this. A bright golden orange pour. Very tart aroma, with apricot, orange, and olenty of oak. Absolutely wood dominated flavor. So much wood up front, followed by a tart apricot like fruit, peaches, and paper. Very impressed with the amount of oak in this beer, and the amount of how much it worked. Very pleasant sour here. Unique. Glad this was brought up by the man himself for the release. Glad you enjoyed your visit to my favorite brewery too! Quite the tasty sour here.
