Slumbering for 18 months, Ghosts in the Forest is a blend of beer from The Lost Abbey Oak Foeders and a few select French oak barrels. This blonde sour focuses on the complexity of Brettanomyces and oak.

“When we first got these massive Foeders, we knew we were going to have to be patient and let the oak work it’s magic” said Tomme Arthur, COO and Co-Founder of The Lost Abbey. “We’ve since added 3 additional vessels, creating our own “forest” and we’re really excited to start to blending these beers into future creations.”

2017 bottle.

Lightly hazed(not cold hazed) dark yellow, initially strong head of foam that shrunk quickly. Excellent lacing.

Smells oaky, vinous, acetic....yeah, sour. Some Brett for sure. This is a nose that I love in American Wild Ales.

Sour grapes, more sour fruit, oak is solid, Brett seems to come and go. Sourness level aboot a 4 out of 5. Acetic level mostly in the finish.

Medium body with lively carbonation.

Excellent example of the style.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Tom L's place. Cloudy yellow. Barnyard funk, lots of oak, fruitiness, cobwebs, a bit of vinegar, citrus, sour, juicy, medium-bodied, rounded. Great stuff.

Oxford tasting
Cloudy blond color. Aroma of lemon, a bit cheesy. Sour, lemony, balanced, some complexity, but still overpriced.

12.7 oz corked and caged. Aroma is lacto, lemon, wood. Pours slightly hazy pale golden with a thin white collapsing head. Taste is mouth-puckering sour (4.5/5) and acidic; flavors of lemon, wood, tobacco. Highly carbonated, but not quite champagne-level. Nice beer.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out oak upfront, with moderate acidity and toasted notes. Flavour is quite tart, with tart citrus, oak, and light wild yeast. Tart, acidic, and nicely balanced. Good stuff.
