The original TSTBRW 2 (Imperial Stout) aged for 1 year in Tequilla barrels. This was done in the old fermentation cellars under the brewery where music of Barry White plays 24/7. It was the third succesful barrel aged beer of Sven Dekleermaeker, the brewer who is famous for restoring the original recipe for the famous Antwerp Bolleke.

Draught Huge greige head, dense, over jet-black beer. Green leaves, holly, sweet herbs, roast, meatgravy, alcohol. Sweet-roasted, bit ashy. Alcohol, both raw and fine (the tequilla no doubt), even brandy-like. Warming, slick, but only just full-bodied, (alcoholthinning?), making it just perfect for drinkability despite the alcoholpunch. This is definitely the best TSTBRW from De Koninck so far.

F: thin, tan, not long lasting. C: dark, opaque. A: light roasted tones, tequila boozy, dark fruity, bit caramel, bit sweet cherries. T: dark malts, fruity, warming alcohol, bit caramel, bit chocolate, bit roasted tones, not so complex but still enjoyable, medium to full body, lower carbonation, sample draft shared with Germany and BE RB crew @ ZBF 2018.

29 April 2018, at Zythos Bierfestival. Deputy Taster: Anke. Thanks to the assistants at the stand for the sample!
Cloudy black with a lasting, small, foamy, beige head. Intense aroma of ripe apple, tequila, sharp calvados or bourbon, candied dark fruits, roasted malt, caramel. It tastes medium malty & chocolatey sweet and light to medium fruity sour, slightly toasty & nutty in the back. Bit woody & roasted in the peppery hop finish, but dominated by sharpish bourbon/tequila alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Okay so far, needs some refinement and less sharp alcohol.

Thank you for sharing RB People! Sampled draft @ ZBF 2018. Black, tanned head. Nose is harsh liquorice molasses, boozy, too varnish harsh alcoholic & burned bread malts. Taste is too harsh plastic, cured all raw booze, plastic, burned malt, burned bread, roast. Too much & way too much harsh alcohol, Duvel seems to have a weird idea of what makes BA beers appealing.

Tequila barrel aged beer - I'm guessing the very first one in Belgium - tasted at Zythos Bierfestival. Loose, quickly opening, tan head, black robe with hazy mahogany brown edges. Aroma breathes a lot of pure tequila, spicy and very boozy with a raw green agave juice-like effect, brutally overpowering softer notes of chocolate sauce, butterscotch, toffee, chicory, raisins, candied figs; very prominent solventy effects as well (fresh paint, wood glue). Sweet onset, candied dates, soft carb, full oily mouthfeel but still somehow lacking a bit in body, especially against the huge amount of agressive booze which quickly shows up and heat the rest of the palate; tequila flavour is way too harsh here and so are the glueish solvents, overwhelming the gentle, toffeeish and nutty malt quality. Not much roasted bitterness either so the basic beer - see its own entry here - is already a bit thin and simple for an imperial stout; here it is drowned in way too much booze. Needs a lot more refinement, though I can somehow appreciate the fact that a traditional family brewery like Moortgat has the guts to do something like this.
