This West Coast/Rocky Mountain-style India Pale Ale is back-hopped for a more intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma without the balance of caramel malts like our Midwest-style Baldock IPA. It has medium-high alcohol content, high fruity, floral and citrus-like American-varietal hop character, deep golden color and medium maltiness.

Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark golden color with a large foamy white head that lingered and left excellent lacing. The aroma was sweet and tangy with pine and lemon notes. The flavor was sweetish and yeasty with pine, lemon and pepper. Long finish with lingering sweet pine. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Tap Hollywood Gardens. Pale yellow. Nose is mild hop perfume laced with female BO. Thick viscous mouth coating & rude. Terribly on style. Yes, long, chewing on green grapefruit rinds, finish. What else can be said? Whew. Every-time I think I’m getting used to IPA, a really on style one like this sets me back again.

Can. Pours a fairly clean and clear gold with a big, sudsy head. Aromas are largely floral and soapy with a hint of honey. Flavor is way too sweet with a gunky hops profile that just doesn’t work. Kind of juicy fruit and floral hops without enough backbone or bite to make this seem anything other than flabby. This one isn’t for me.

12 ounce can from The Malt Shoppe, 9/11/16. This is starting out just like the last one that had infection issues. About half the can poured and a 4.5 finger head. Clear copper, tan head, huge, good retention. Aroma of toasted malts, earthy and floral hops. The taste is floral, citrus hops, doughy malt, mandarin oranges and a hint of umami. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness.

Can/Fest. A- Pine, caramel. A- Copper color, clear liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, pine. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, malty finish. O- Meh. Too much caramel malty backbone and only compliment with some pine bitterness. Not very exciting.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, bottled on 9/8/2015. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden orange color with a 2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big apricot, mango, melon, grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big apricot, mango, melon, grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, honey, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of apricot, mango, melon, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, sticky/resinous, and lightly creamy mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bright copper coloured body with a nice, dense tan head, about two centimetres tall. Aroma of pungent grassy and grapefruity hops with a large malt backbone and some alcohol noticeable. Medium-bodied; Strong malt profile at first with a nice and flavourful hop character of grass, flowers and grapefruit, all with a kick near the end from a good deal of alcohol. Aftertaste shows a nice balance, with more emphasis on the hops of course, but nothing great in it. Overall, a good and well-balanced IPA with a nice hop profile and subtle complexity, but nothing too impressive that are an immediate purchase. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Spec’s Liqour in Dallas, Texas on 01-September-2015 for US$3,09 sampled in the mountains of Shenendoah National Park on 19-September-2015.

12oz can pours with a nearly clear copper body that supports a thin off white head. The aroma offers up mangos, cantaloupe, some citrus gummy bears and then a thin river of sweet malts in the background. The taste delivers juicy tropical fruit, bitter citrus hops and then malty sweet cantaloupe. These notes struggle to meld together toward midway and into the finish where a mild degree of earthy cucumber murmurs to the surface. Interesting brew. A few more ounces seems to make it come into focus but then a few more and it diverges. Hmm.
