Counterculture Common is a Sour Mash Southern Style Dark Lager brewed with flaked maize and rye. The nose is full of yeasty grain aromas and sweet roasted notes. Despite its dark appeal, the body is surprisingly light with malty attributes of caramel and cocoa. The finish is clean with a touch of bitterness.

12 oz. Bottle shared by Willrunforbeer, thanks much! The color is a deep Amber that boders on brown. Active carbonation give some flimsy head retention around the edges of the glass. Aroma shows Vennia or Munich malts. Lager yeast hints. The roasted notes with the yeast makes me this of a Vennia lager. Yeast lingers after the sip. Drinkable and I like.the change of pace.
Dig the mild sour taste. Not much back end though

12 oz bottle. Pours deep brown with a white head. Slightly tart, lightly malty aroma. Flavor is of a light toasty beer with a hint of grape mixing into an overall slight tart character. It’s okay, but there’s just not much to it.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 1/14/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep reddish copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, cocoa, toast, brown bread, pear, apple, herbal, grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast notes; with solid strength. Taste of caramel, cocoa, toast, brown bread, pear, apple, herbal, grass, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Light-moderate roast/herbal bitterness and slight tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, cocoa, toast, brown bread, pear, apple, herbal, grass, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly bready/chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.25%. Overall this is a very solid dark California common style. All around good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt, earthy hops, and fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A pleasantly enjoyable offering.

Draft at the brewpub, Bellaire. Hazy red-brown body, thin clumping beige head. Herbal, bitter nose, toasted cereals and spicy floral notes. Toasty body, bitter with burnt sugars and sharp grain and husks. Nutty, bitter, and sharp. On the dry side.
