Fruity, with apple and caramel notes coming from the odd malt used. I’ve never had a Bavarian-hop IPA I’d drink twice, and Reindeer Games does nothing to change that trend. Floral-vegetal notes don’t compliment the malts, and the finish has an odd tang that tastes more like an old IPA than it should. Pass.

Can from 12 Days of Christmas pack sent to me by Clown Shoes. A mix of peppery German and piney American hop hits the nose as I'm pouring this. Color is a dark amber, almost like a Vienna lager, under a sudsy head. Liking the German style malts in this one. The hops kind of just meld together. In fact, they’re kind of earthy more than anything else. But there is some definite bitterness, and both pine and spice. Most pale ales don’t come with this kind of a malt load except for really heavy DIPAs, and this suggests maybe we should see some more of this hybrid.

Pours reddish amber with a frothy white head. Aroma of refreshing hops, a peppermint-reminiscent malt. Taste has more refreshing malt, oaken notes, some slight chocolate. Palate has interesting hop notes, burnt pine smoke, some resinous pine. quite good.
