Well balanced, hoppy IPA brewed with pineapple. Hops and fruit, the best of both worlds.

This time, a bottle from my Buddy...Trent!

It’s a hazy honey coloured brew that sits under a +1 finger of billowy foam.

In the smell, I get biscuit malt mixed with a citrusy grassy hop aroma.

The taste brings me biscuit malt and a citrus turning to, in the finish, a sort of quinine bitterness. Very sharp bitterness. I can’t say I get any pineapple.

Medium body and carbonation.

This is an unusual IPA and one that I like.

Bottle. Deep golden/orange body with a frothy, off-white head. Aroma of pineapple, grapefruit, citrus, toasted grain, tropical fruits. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, slick, pineapple juice texture, soft carbonation. Drinkable for a novelty beer. Pineapple sweetness and bitter hops work find together, the pineapple accentuating the citrus character of the hops.

12 oz bottle as just "Pineapple IPA." Pours a hazy orange amber with an off-white head. Citrus, tropical fruit, and a bit of pine in the aroma. Flavor is similar, citrus and tropical fruit, but ties in more pine resin. It’s a fairly well-done beer, really.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/26/2014. Pours lightly hazy orange amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, floral, grass, light caramel, honey, and floral earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of pineapple, citrus hops, and moderate malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of juicy pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toast, and floral/toasted earthiness. Good amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon zest, floral, grass, pine, caramel, toast, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and complexity of pineapple, citrus hops, and dark/bready malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and a fair amount of lingering astringent bitterness after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, moderately sticky, and fairly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice fruited IPA. Good balance and complexity of pineapple, citrus hops, and dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth to drink. The bitter astringency definitely knocked this down for me, but nicely enjoyable otherwise.

Sampled from the tap at the 15th annual MBGSF. Pours a near clear orange gold with a tan head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has a note of earthy pineapple with a grass note and an earthy grain backbone. Flavor has more of a grassy note with just a hint of pineapple and some backing grains.

Sampled at SAVOR. Poured a slightly straw color with a slight foamy white head. Aroma was mild pineapple, tropical fruit citrus. Flavor was mild pineapple, tropical fruit citrus. Okay, but not as "pineapple" as I was hoping for, though I suppose the beer could have been a bit too tart (not sour tart, but the kind of tart that pineapple can be) if it was a bit more like pineapple.

Draft at HopCat, Grand Rapids. Slightly hazy medium orange-brown body, thin creamy off-white head. Light nose with pineapple and citrus. Light, hoppy body, mostly citrusy, bitter hops with modest pineapple. Lingering bitter finish with a long citrus rind aftertaste. The pineapple was a nice touch to a basic IPA.

On tap at Odd Side. This beer was a amber gold with a little bit of a head and aromas that were lightly reminiscent of the juice that is added to pineapples in a can with a little bit of citrus and tropical fruit hops blended over top. Flavor had a pretty sweet and almost syrupy pineapple juice flavor with enough hops (resiny in the late finish, but tropical fruit up front) to balance it out and make the whole thing damn tasty! I want more! Great stuff!
