Bottle. Pours a clear amber red with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has red wine and sweet grains with some green apple and raisin underlying. Flavor has sweet grains and bread with notes of raisin and wine supporting.

Keg at the brewery. Hazy copper, thin creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, bready malt, oak, raisin. Taste is raisin, toffee, oak, wine, spice. Medium bodied, lingering spice.

Poured from bottle thanks Willrunforbeer murky red brown with minimal head. Aromas of oak toast and tart grapes. Taste is sour grapes oak dark fruit and funk. Not my wheelhouse.

12 oz. bottle, share thanks to Willrunforbeer. Dirty muddy water brown color, no head. Aroma is tannic red wine, funky moldy oak. To be fair, this was sitting for a undisclosed amount of time. Maybe a tad more funk then I care for.

Leans more on a sour brown/ red. The Brewer calls it a Abbey Dubbel... Ummmmm ok. The longer it sits, it will get more funky. This is not a Lucid dream for me at all. funky oak, tannic red wine. Not for me.

Pours hazy deep amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of mal,t caramel, dried fruits, white wine and hint of funk. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long vinous, caramel, dried fruity and slightly funky finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at Hop Cat, Ann Arbor. It’s a clear, chestnut cooked beer with a small lucky beige head. The aroma has a light caramel touch, nuts, bread, dried fruits and some grass. It’s full bodied and with a light warming touch and a pleasant carbonation. Caramel, dried fruits and some nuts in the flavor, lasting finish. A nice dubbel, but not much impact from the barrel. Some tannins and wine though. 150615

12 oz bottle. Pours red brown with a light tan head. Nutty redcurrant/red grape/raspberry aroma. Flavor also is rather nutty, oaky, and raisin. Nice, but maybe leans too much on the wine barrel flavors.

12 ounce bottle into chalice; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy deep ruby red color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, tannic red wine, oak, clove, toast, candi sugar, herbal, light pepper, and yeast/oak earthiness. Very nice aromas with well balance fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, and malt notes; with good strength. Taste of raisin, plum, toast, tannic red wine, oak, clove, light pepper, candi sugar, herbal, and yeast/oak earthiness. Fair amount of tannic tartness and yeast spice on the finish; with lingering notes of raisin, plum, toast, red wine, oak, clove, light pepper, candi sugar, herbal, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, malt, wine barrel flavors; with a great balance of the wine and yeast notes with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly acidic mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice wine barrel aged dubbel! All around good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, malt, and wine barrel flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Draft at Odd Side. Hazy red-brown body, thin cream head. Tart nose with red grapes, oak, and toast. Tart body with lots of grape in addition to toast; thin with light esters (faint clove primarily) and oak. Thin and cloyingly tart.

Sample at Odd Side. Pour was a medium brown with little head and a surprising herbal/citrus hops presence in the nose. I wasn’t expecting it at all, but flavor was more in line with what I was guessing at. Lots of red wine notes with oranges and other fruit that cover up (mostly) a heavy amount of booziness. Good, but maybe a bit much.
